The Country Club of Rochester (CCR), considered to be one of the oldest golf clubs in America, is located in the towns of Brighton and Pittsford, in Rochester, New York

The club was formed in 1895 by a group of golfers who belonged to the Genesee Valley Club and wanted to form a family club.

The club started with a farmhouse as its first clubhouse until 1902 when it was destroyed by a fire.

Thereafter, a new clubhouse was built and through the years, the club grew with new amenities, while retaining traditions within its membership.

You can see the golf course hole by hole via the club’s official golf course tour page.

Other amenities, aside from the golf course, includes a state-of-the-art fitness center with group fitness classes offers, four tennis courts, three heated paddle tennis courts, an indoor golf simulator, a youth room and an Olympic-sized pool opened in the summer months.  In the winter months, they offer an ice skating rink and cross-country skiing options.

Casual dining is available at the Thistle Hall and Grill, which is open seven days a week for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

What are the extra costs?

From what we researched, there is a $50 per month capital reserve fund charge.  Unlike other country clubs, there isn’t a minimum food spending charge.

Special assessment fees may be applied in the future.  For example, the club talked about assessing members a $4,700 charge, which would be used to improve the pool and fitness center.  These fees can be 100% random and not guaranteed to appear in the future.

Green fees will apply to members and guests who don’t have golfing privileges.  Guests may also have to pay an extra cost when using the pool and tennis courts.

Private lessons, clinics, tournaments, and camps will be an additional cost to think about.

Social events, commonly held throughout the year, can be an additional cost to budget to participate.

Tips to know:

The club’s first 9-hole golf course, which was laid out on both sides of Brighton Road, had every hole named in the British way. Today, the course is an 18-hole, 6,455-yard course, designed by Donald J. Ross. The course has gone through expansions and changes through the years, which were done by other noted golf architects, namely Robert Trent Jones and Arthur Hills.  As of late, the completed restorations were done by the golf course architect, Gil Hanse in 2004.

The club had hosted the 1953 U.S. Women’s Open, which was the first women’s open certified by the USGA, the 1962 U.S. Women’s Amateur and the U.S. Women’s Open in 1973.

This club has been listed by the USGA as one of the first 100 clubs created in the U.S.

They do abide by a dress code that keeps in tradition with the private clubs in the United States.
