How much does Dermapen® cost?

The costs of Dermapen® treatment sessions will depend on a variety of factors, including how many sessions you need, the doctor you choose, your age, your skin condition, the area treated and geographical region.  From what we researched via patients online who shared their costs, the average session would cost $80 to $180 per treatment session, with most people requiring up to six treatment sessions to see desirable results, meaning you should be prepared to budget up to $700 to $1,500+ to see optimal results.   These costs, however, can reduce quite a bit if you were to purchase your sessions in bulk at the beginning of your treatment, so be sure to ask your doctor if you can qualify for any discounts before starting.

The costs of a Dermapen® treatment session, as per the official website of the company, can range anywhere from $200 to $700 per session depending on the treatment provided.  Based on the information provided, the company recommends patients receive four to six treatments, depending on your skin condition and age, and the number of treatments will be based on two primary things:  the results you want and which part of the body is treated.  Wrinkles, for example, could require up to eight treatments, while another condition could require much less.

At Realself.com, more than 75+ visitors shared their costs, with the average price being $400.  At the time of this publishing, 45% of the 20+ ratings said the procedure was worth it.

What is the Dermapen®?

The Dermapen®, according to the official website, uses a sterile, individually-sealed disposable needle cartridge which is actually made up of 12 smaller needles to penetrate your skin in the safest way possible.  When puncturing the skin, these small, micro-skin channels, carrying up to 80 percent of the topical nutrients your cells need, will help stimulate your skin’s natural ability to heal itself and produce new collagen, eventually forming strong and insoluble fibers which serve as the connective tissue between your cells.  This, essentially, increasing the absorption of the active ingredients in your skin, stimulating the repair and accelerating the regeneration process.

Essentially, according to this Sydney Morning Herald article, it’s a pen with tiny, superfine needles attached to the end of it that is designed to roll over your skin, pinning holes, as deep as two millimeters, along the way.

Similar to a lot of cosmetic laser procedures, it works in a similar way; however, there will be no adverse side effects nor will there be a long recovery period.  Aside from this, the company notes it can be even more effective than the normal microdermabrasion procedure and chemical peels due to the way the needles reduce the risk of any cross-contamination and the adjustable needle depth that can cater to each individual need.

The procedure – how does it work?

Before the procedure is even considered, your doctor will want to discuss the procedure with you, explore your medical history and ask you about what kind of results you want to achieve.  With this information, he or she can then consider if the treatment option is ideal for your situation.

Prior to the procedure, a topical anesthetic will be applied to the targeted area and will then be covered with a cling film.  Once complete, you will then be asked to sit for about 60 minutes to allow the cream to numb the area.

Once the part is numb, the Dermapen will gently move around, creating mini-wounds microscopic in size.  This process can almost feel like a massage with padded fingers or boulders going over your skin.  As long as the numbing cream does its job, most people note the procedure is quite painless.

The entire procedure, from start to finish, will take about 40 to 60 minutes, and as mentioned before, additional treatments will more than likely be required in the future to see optimal results.

How does it feel?

According to the Sydney Morning Herald article mentioned earlier, she noted her skin felt very hot and a bit stingy afterward, almost like she sat in the sun for the full day.  Aside from the hot feeling, which was felt for about six hours, also made her skin quite red and very sensitive, a side effect the company says you should be prepared to feel.  After three days, she felt her side effects subsided, with her skin looking clearer about a week later.

Another review via Elle stated she felt the same way, with her face looking as if she had a severe sunburn and a sensitive feeling.  After 24 hours, though, she felt the worse was behind her and she went to work the next day after applying some medical foundation and repair cream to hide her redness.

Tips to know

The procedure is great for those who are suffering from sagging skin, wrinkles, fine lines, scarring, stretch marks, acne scars, surgical scars, burn scars and even tattoos.  To see the before and after pictures for each type of condition, the official website has a variety of pictures from patients who used the procedure.

All treatments will be spaced about four to six weeks apart for the safety and health of your skin.

While the side effects are minimal, discoloration and dry skin may occur after the procedure; however, it generally subsides within seven days.

For doctors, the costs of the actual device is said to be close to $3,000, with each needle retailing for about $25.

While you may see products online via Amazon and such, there are no Dermapen® at home products worth the investment.

Curb Rash Repair Cost

Whether it’s a bad parallel parking job or you simply misjudged the curb, your wheel could have suffered curb rash because of it.

Depending on the extent of the damage, the costs will greatly vary, usually based on the type of rims your car has.

How much does wheel curb rash repair cost?

In most curb rash situations, the car’s rims will take the brunt of the impact, meaning that most of the time, you will need to repair or in a worse case scenario, replace your rim entirely.  In conclusion, the two main factors to consider when receiving a quote will include the scope of the damage and the type of rims you have installed, with most quotes, when hiring a professional, being in the $50 to $250+ range.

As there are a variety of rim types, we broke down the popular rim materials and the costs involved in the table below:

Rim TypeScratched or Scuffed?Bent?Cracked?
Steel$50 to $100 but isn't necessary. It's often done for cosmetic purposes only.Depending on how the bend, welding may be required, with costs in the $50 to $150 range. If no welding is required, most jobs can be performed for less than $50.Steel rims usually do not crack but can gouge. In this case, the rim will need to be replaced 100%.
Aluminum/Alloy$50 to $100 when using some sand, putty and paint, but for many rims, matching the color specifically can be hard.Replacement is recommended as this type of rim cannot be bent back into a safe position.Like a bent rim, replacement is highly recommended for safety reasons.
ChromeUsually replaced, but if you do not want to replace, they can often be re-plated for $200 to $500.$50 to $125 to bend back into position as long as the bend isn't too extreme. Keep in mind, however, that if you were to consider the bending option, it can damage the finish of the rim.99.9% of the time, a replacement is required and will be much cheaper than repairing.
Plastic CladUsually no great way to repair and replacement is recommended. In most cases, a bent plastic clad rim will lead to a rather large chip. Again, replacement is required. No repair option available and replacement is required yet again.

For those who tend to like DIY jobs and want to avoid the professionals,at-home kits are available, which range anywhere from $15 to $35, depending on the brand you purchase.  For at-home kits, however, the results often do not look as good as a professional and the colors can be hard to match.  If you want to purchase an at-home kit, just be sure to read the reviews before doing so to make sure you’re buying a good product.

On this MercedesCLA.org forum thread, a member posted a picture of his rim scratches, asking what he should be prepared to pay, and according to the responses, members stated you should be prepared to spend at least $120 to $150 per wheel at a local dealer.

Another member on this CorvetteForum.com forum thread stated he was quoted $125 for his curbed wheel he posted a picture of.

The four types of rims

As you see in the table above, most cars will use one of the four rim types, with each type offering its own advantages and disadvantages.

Aluminum alloy:  Commonly found on newer vehicles, aluminum alloy rims, as the name implies, comes from the alloy of aluminum and are usually painted with a clear coat.  If they bent, the repair can be difficult, but as for a scuff or scratch, most professionals are able to sand and repaint with ease.

Chrome plated:  In the case of curb rash, most chrome plated rims can be sandblasted and re-plated; however, for most, the price of this repair can often be close to purchasing a new rim, the main reason why most drivers prefer to simply purchase a new comparable rim.

Plastic clad:  Similar to the look of chrome, a plastic clad rim will be much lighter and cheaper for the manufacturer to produce.  As it’s made from plastic, any sort of damage done to this type of material can be next to impossible since, most of the time, the rim will crack, requiring replacement.

Steel wheel:  Steel, as a material, is quite durable and can withstand a lot of damage.  Because of this, it means you can often repair them without the worry about replacement, whether it’s scuffed or bent.

The process

When repairing a curbed wheel, the process often begins by removing all of the dirt, particles and protective finishes from the rim, according to Cars.com.  Next, the damaged area is sanded down, patched with a filler, sanded again and finally buffed to create a smooth finish to remove the scratches.  Then, the damaged area needs to primed and painted to match the original color and topped with a clear-coat finish.  This is often the process for scratches and scuffs, with no bending or cracking visible.

How Much Does DermaBellix Cost?

DermaBellix, according to its official website, claims to be a time-test solution that’s designed to remove skin tags in as little as eight hours.

With one out of five Americans suffering from unsightly skin tags, this formulated solution is said to use ancient techniques via mainstream science to dry up and remove them at a records pace.

How much does DermaBellix cost?

The cost of DermaBellix will really depend on where you purchase it from, with the official website, depending on the promotion being held, averaging about $50 to $70 per 30-milliliter bottle (a one-month supply) to about $50, on average, at third-party websites such as Amazon, often the cheapest option from our research.  This price, however, can drop to as little as $60 if you committed to three bottles via the official website, for example.

At the time of this publishing, the official website offered the following three options:  $99.98 for a two-month supply, $199.97 for a three-month supply or $59.99 for a one-month supply.  Aside from these prices, you could customize your options by expediting your order for an additional $20 and/or adding a “thank you” bonus bottle for another $29.99 plus free shipping.

What exactly is DermaBellix?

Reading the official website, there doesn’t appear to be a ton of information, but digging around online via third-party sources, it does state the bottle is all-natural with a fast-acting liquid-based solution that includes ingredients that are able to get rid of skin tags on any part of the body in less than a day.  Aside from skin tags, the company notes it can also work on moles as well.

With a fresh pine scent, there are three steps in order to effectively use the product.  First, you will want to cleanse the area around the skin tag, followed by rubbing the solution on the affected skin tag with a cosmetic paid and wait for the solution to work its magic as the skin tag slowly starts to dry, eventually withering away or falling off completely.  While the results do vary from consumer to consumer, the entire process can be completed in as little as eight hours.  After this time, if you do not see the results you want, then they recommend you start the process over again until the skin tag disappears completely.

The ingredients

The ingredients, as per a customer service representative, includes the following:

Glycine Soja (Soybean) Oil:  An essential oil often associated with healthy skin and is found in many topical products designed to help with wrinkling and scarring.

Melaleuca Altemifolia (Tea Tree) Essential Oil:  Used for decades, tea tree oil has been known to show antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties.

Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil:  Almond oil has been proven for its ability to increase the lipid uptake in the skin, making it easier for the body to absorb nutrients.

Ricinus Communis (Castor Seed) Oil:  Derived from castor beans and roots, this oil has been used for a variety of medical purposes, including anti-inflammatory and free radical scavenging effects.

Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba Seed) Oil:  A desert shrub known for producing nuts, these seeds contain about 50 percent liquid wax, also referred to as jojoba oil, an oil known for its anti-inflammatory properties and treating irritated skin.

Thuja Occidentalis Leaf:  Native to Europe, this leaf is known for its antiviral action and the ability to help strengthen the human immune system.

Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E):  Found in so many beauty products today, Vitamin E, via scientific studies, have shown to have both photoprotective and antitumorigenic properties.   It’s also commonly used as a way to help heal damaged skin and stabilize the skin barrier.

DermaBellix reviews

On the official Amazon.com product page, 12 customers gave it an average 1.2 out of five stars, with almost every review claiming it did work at all and felt like a huge waste of money.

Close to 35+ HighYa.com members gave it a similar rating to Amazon, giving it a 1.2 out five stars, with most of the people, again, claiming it does not work, not showing any effects whatsoever, with some going as far to say it’s a “scam,” but we are not here to just as we will let you determine that one for yourself.

How much does crown molding cost?

The costs of installing crown molding will depend on a variety of factors, including the materials you choose, the professional you hire, the scope of your project and your geographical location.  With so many factors, it’s hard to offer an exact estimate, but from the many quotes we found online, the costs tend to be in the $7 to $13 per foot range, with an additional $40 to $60 per corner needed.

It can be hard to offer an exact price as every job is so unique, and for that reason, we highly recommend the free quote comparison tool, HomeAdvisor.com.  Here, you will explain your job, and with this information, locally and licensed contractors will contact you with a free, no-obligation quote.  The entire process painless, quick and no credit card is required and is considered to be a wonderful way to receive multiple quotes without picking up the phone or searching online for a good contractor.

Plaster$6-$11/foot
Polystyrene foam$1-$2/foot
Polyurethane$2-$5/foot
PVC$1-$3/foot
Exotic Wood$10-$35+/foot
Wood$1-$5/foot, depending on choice

LaborDepending on the complexity, add $3 to $6 per foot to the prices above

The extra costs to think about

Doors and windows:  In some circumstances, adding molding to the windows and doors can often make the room feel more “polished” when combined with the ceiling crown molding.  If you wanted to add a similar type of molding to the doors, the costs can range anywhere from $100 to $250 per door and/or $100 to $150 per window.

Lighting:  To add a sophisticated look, lighting can be added to the crown molding, often via a rope and strip-type setup.  Depending on the type chosen, this can, on average, add another $1 to $4 per foot to your total costs, including the materials.

Painting/staining:  If you need the material painted or stained prior to the install, then this can often add to the estimates as well.  At about $25 to $40 per hour, a skilled contractor can paint close to 50 linear feet per hour.

Wiring management:  Some crown molding material allows you to hide cables behind the molding as it’s being installed due to the inside tracks that are hidden behind the molding, making your device connections look a lot neater.  To conceal your wiring, if it were necessary for the job, a contractor may charge an additional fee, often $1 to $3 per foot.

Crown molding styles

Medium-density Fiberboard:  Known as MDF, medium-density fiberboard offers the natural look of wood, but a cost that is much lower.  Due to the lighter materials, this option can make it a great choice for any room as the weight will not be a problem, nor will the aesthetics since it can be painted just like wood.  Being lightweight, though, it is prone to denting during the install and some contractors shy away from it due to the difficulties in cutting customized corners.

Plaster:  This type of molding often makes for a great choice for larger rooms equipped with plaster walls, and since it cast to walls with an elaborate design, homeowners are often able to create the look they envisioned in the first place.  Not know to shrink or warp over time, it can be prone to cracking during the install process and cannot work in all installation scenarios due to the weight.

Polystyrene:  One of the simplest molding options to install, Polystyrene is known to be so thin, it can be cut with scissors and applied to almost any designs.  Often chosen as a material for options where other materials do not work, polystyrene is cost-efficient and will not have many downsides.

Polyurethane:  Resistant to scratching, rotting and warping, polyurethane is easy to install, very versatile and can work into almost any design.  However, like most options, it may not paint or stain as you want it to and can also dent during the install.

PVC:  Often found in high moisture areas, such as the kitchen and bathroom, PVC molding is hollow, sometimes used as a way to hide cables.  Even though it can withstand moisture and make for a great way to hide wires, it will look just like PVC, meaning it will be white in color and cannot be customized.

Wood:  Solid wood crown molding, often the most popular option, can be carved into various designs, customized with paint/stains and/or even completed as a novice DIY project, but like other materials, it does have its downsides, including warping during the changing of the seasons, and in some cases, it could be a bad choice due to the weight involved.  The average cost of solid wood crown molding options, as noted in our table, can vary depending on the choice, but to give you an idea as to how much it may cost you, a popular choice such as cherry could cost about $5 per foot for just the materials, whereas a maple crown molding piece could cost about $3 to $5 per foot, not including the installation.

How should I size the molding?

All crown molding will not be created equally as you may have already found out.  While you can choose any material you wish, per se, the size of the crown molding is just as important as well since this will enhance the beauty of the room.  Known as the “drop,” this simply refers to the distance from the ceiling to the edge of the bottom of the crown molding materials.  Even though you make an exception and do anything you want to do, here are the standards contractors often choose:

Tips to know

It’s highly recommended you purchase at least 10 to 15 percent more in the case of an accident during either the install process in the case of a replacement in the future.

CarMax Extended Warranty Cost

CarMax, one of the nation’s largest network of dealerships, offers an extended warranty plan, known as the MaxCare Service Plans, which gives you that extra peace of mind after your manufacturer warranty expires.

The warranty benefits all customers as it is available for all cars CarMax sells.

The costs of a CarMax extended warranty will depend on the number of miles on it, the deductible, which car you purchase and how long you wanted the warranty to last for mileage wise.

It appeared all warranties would last six years, but it was up to you as to how many miles you wanted to be covered, with the warranty cover the total miles on the car, not from the date of purchase.  The standard six-year, 125,000-mile warranty appeared to range anywhere from $1,000 to $3,800+ based on the factors mentioned above.

This Jalopnik article, for example, talked about the coolest unreliable cars you could get with a CarMax warranty, with prices ranging anywhere from $3,799 for a six-year/125,000 mile warranty for a 2013 Audi RS5 to as much as $4,199 for the same length warranty for a 2005 Porsche 911 Turbo Cabriolet.  Granted, these were quotes for cars that were priced much higher than the average purchase at your local CarMax but can at least offer some insight as to the maximum amounts you may pay.

A member on this Slickdeals.net forum thread stated he was quoted an additional $1,300 for a car he paid $21,000 for.

Jacob Irwin over at MyPersonalFinanceJourney.com discussed his experience at CarMax with his girlfriend, noting he was quoted $1,000 but ended up denying the coverage at the end, which he said was heavily pushed throughout the sales process.

One member on this Reddit.com thread claimed he paid $3,899 for his 2006 Range Rover, with CarMax paying more than $9,104 in claims over the past three and a half years.

Prices sourced online...
$3,500 for 740i BMW
$3,500 for 2013 Lincoln MKZ
$1,300
$2,300 for Mercedes
$3,500 for 2010 Volkswagen Jetta
$2,559 for 2009 BMW X5
$3,000 for 2008 Mercedes

What does the CarMax extended warranty cover?

According to the official website of the company, the extended warranty will offer comprehensive mechanical protection, including the engine, transmission, drivetrain, electronics, electrical system, steering, suspension, cooling system and climate control, with the exception of some exclusions as noted on the website, including maintenance parts, such as wiper blades and batteries, aftermarket accessories, a breakdown caused by abuse/misuse, tire replacement due to a flat tire via roadside assistance, and fuel costs if you were to need emergency roadside assistance.  Other limitations and restrictions do apply, and for a full list, talk with your CarMax representative for more information.

The warranty covers you no matter where you are in the United States or Canada, and for an authorized repair center, you can contact the toll-free assistance line.

If your vehicle is deemed too unsafe to drive and needs to be kept overnight for repairs, then the company will reimburse you for your rental car, up to $40 per day for up to seven days.

Emergency roadside assistance, also as part of the warranty, will offer assistance 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and all services are covered up to $100 per occurrence.

Tips to know

CarMax, from what we read from buyers, will have deductibles for the plan that range from $50 to $500.  Like any policy in general, the higher this deductible is, the more you can potentially save.

At the time of purchase, CarMax does not, per its FAQ, that all used cars will come with a 30-day limited warranty, with some states offering a longer duration.

How to save on Celebrex

Coupon via Pfizer:  Pfizer, the official manufacturer of the drug, offers a savings card on its official website for the branded medication.  If you qualify, as per the company’s guidelines, then you can receive the medicine for as little as $4 per 30-day fill.  To see if you’re eligible, you can either be insured via a private policy or not insured at all, you’re 18 or older and you do not have prescription coverage in the state of Massachusetts.  For more information, you can follow this link to fill out an application to see if you do qualify.

Assistance:  Aside from the traditional state and federally funded program, there are third-party patient assistance programs available which can help with the prescription costs as long as you meet the eligibility requirements.  The HealthWell Foundation, for example, helps cover this drug and will award up to $12,000 for families who meet up to 500% of the Federal Poverty Level.

Prescription Coupons:  Just like a health insurance policy, online prescription coupons via third-party websites, such as GoodRX.com, can help you save up 80%.  Available for anyone, it works just like health insurance — all you have to do is find the prescription drug you need, the pharmacy you want to use, and with that information, you print out the free coupon and present it at your local pharmacy just like you would your insurance card.  If going this route, however, you will not be able to combine your health insurance plan with it; you can either use one or another.

Ask about alternatives:  Meloxicam, which can cost as little as $5 a month, works in a similar way but can be much cheaper.  Talk with your doctor to see if any alternatives could work for your current situation.

Celebrex overview

Celebrex is an anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), specifically a COX-2 inhibitor, designed to help treat mild to moderate pain due to the symptoms caused by arthritis, such as swelling, joint pain, stiffness and/or inflammation.  This medication is not designed to cure arthritis; rather, it will help you, similar to a way ibuprofen will help with pain.  As long as you take, it will continue to help reduce the pain felt.

Dosages greatly vary by patients, but for most adults, it will depend on the reason why you’re taking the medication.  For acute pain, adults often take two 200 milligram tablets a day, for rheumatoid arthritis it’s 100 to 200 milligrams two times a day, and while for ankylosing spondylitis or osteoarthritis, only one 200 milligram tablet is taken once a day.  Always follow your doctor’s orders and the directions on the label; never take too much, too little or change your dosage without first consulting with your doctor.

The medication is taken orally and best taken with food to decrease the chances of a stomach ache.  It’s also advisable you take with a full glass of water and avoid laying down for at least 10 minutes after taking.

Celebrex side effects

Stomach or an upset stomach may occur as one of the most common side effects, but other side effects, albeit rare, are known to exist as well, including a rise in blood pressure, headaches, kidney problems, a difficult time swallowing, symptoms of heart failure and in some extremely rare cases, it could cause a serious and sometimes fatal liver disease or allergic reaction.  If you feel any side effects you’re not comfortable with, contact your doctor or pharmacist immediately.  This is not a full list of side effects; for a full list, we highly recommend you refer to this FDA guide.

How much does AcceleDent cost?

The cost of AcceleDent will depend on the orthodontist you choose, the device (Aura or Optima) and your geographical region, with the average price reported by users being in the $550 to $1,500 range for the actual device, and the price, from what we researched online, seemed to greatly depend on how many your orthodontist would purchase at once as those who purchased in bulk were able to offer much lower prices than those who didn’t.  In fact, a lot of orthodontists who did talk online often stated they would be charged about $1,000; however, if they purchased enough in bulk, the prices, with a rebate, could drop to as little as $400.  Most orthodontists would often sell at costs as a favor to their patients due to the positive experience it brought to the orthodontic process.

Being an elective procedure, almost all dental insurance policies will not cover the device, but it maybe eligible under your HSA or FSA if prescribed by a licensed dental professional.

According to one member on Reddit.com, for example, he was quoted $1,500 for the device, while another member who replied on the same thread stated he was quoted $900.

How AcceleDent works

As teeth move, they go through a process known as bone remodeling, and when force is applied to the teeth, the bone cells are then mobilized around the root of the tooth.  This cellular response, essentially, cause the changes in the bone surrounding the tooth, allowing your orthodontist to help guide your tooth movement.

AcceleDent, when worn for 20 minutes a day, will apply precisely calibrated vibrations, known as micropulses, which are designed to transmit through the roots of your teeth to the surrounding bones.  Then, this gentle vibration, when applied, will increase the cellular activity and the speeds in which the teeth can move.  With this technology, the company claims that AcceleDent has shown to move teeth up to 50 percent faster.  It’s also clinically shown to reduce the pain and discomfort up to 71 percent.

Who is the ideal candidate?

According to Vijay Bhagia, DDS via OrthodonticProductsOnline.com, he found at his practice that those who are on a strict deadline, are professionals in the public eye and/or have very difficult orthodontic cases seem to benefit because of the faster treatment process.  He also noted that these are by no means all of the examples, just a select few from the 100 or so patients he dealt with at his practice.

Tips to know

Be very wary when purchasing a secondhand unit on eBay.  While the prices may be tempting, you do not want to buy the device second hand as it is reported they are reported to stop working 18 months after daily use due to the timers built in within the unit.

The company does claim the device is safe and was demonstrated so via U.S. clinical trials.

How Much Does CoolSculpting Cost?

CoolSculpting, at the time of this publishing, is the only FDA-cleared fat-freezing procedure that uses a controlled cooling method to eliminate any stubborn fats that seem to resist all the efforts of exercising and dieting.

The company notes the results are proven, long lasting and noticeable, allow you to look great from all angles, and best of all, no surgery, anesthesia and invasive techniques are necessary.

The creation by two doctors, Dieter Manstein and R. Rox Anderson, years ago, noticed children’s cheeks would form dimples after eating a popsicle.

Soon realizing this concept could be turned into a way to eliminate small pockets of fat, all while leaving the surrounding tissues undamaged, today, more than six million people worldwide have taken advantage of the procedure.

How much does CoolSculpting cost?

According to Carmen Kavali, MD, an Atlanta plastic surgeon via Realself.com, she noted the pricing for CoolSculpting by Zeltiq is protected by the manufacturer, meaning the pricing will be nearly the same everywhere, but some practices may offer special events while other offices may hold a special promotion.  With this in mind, other factors to keep in mind include the doctor’s office you choose, the size of the area that needs to be treated, the number of sessions required and your geographical region.

Based upon all of these factors, the costs, from what we researched via third parties online, can range anywhere from $600 per small area to as much as $1,200 per larger area, with each side of your body requiring one session each.  The cost of a belly, for instance, could be as little as $1,200, whereas both underarms could be double this since two sessions would be necessary.  Often, depending on how “pinchable” your fat is will determine how many applicators/sessions you will need.

As mentioned, many offices offer bulk packaged discounts that could potentially drive these costs down if you were to commit to multiple sessions in the beginning, and with each individual being so different, your results will vary.  The average costs, once complete, seemed to be in the $1,200 to $2,600 range, however.

Due to being a voluntary cosmetic procedure, health insurance will not cover the policy.

The CoolSculpting procedure

During your first visit, your physician will first want to meet with you one-on-one, where they will take the time to discuss the results you want as well as what the procedure can do for your specific situation.  Together, at the time of this consultation, your doctor will then focus on the specific areas you want to eliminate the fat and create a customized plan designed just for your body.  As everyone’s body is different, your CoolSculpting clinician will work on the best treatment plans for your needs.  For some, this could mean one simple office visit, but for others, it could mean multiple visits, but this is often the case for those who want the procedure to target more than one part of the body.

On the day of the treatment, the CoolSculpting procedure, as the name notes, will be chilly to the touch.  This controlled cooling, delivered via an applicator, will freeze the targeted fat with gel pads applied, and at the time of the application, most patients will feel an intense cold feeling; however, this feeling will subside after five to 10 minutes as the area slowly numb. At this time, while the device is positioned over the affected area, the secured applicator will draw the tissue into the applicator cup.   During the procedure, patients can read, check email or just sit back and take a nap as the clinician uses the tool.

The downtime, being very minimal since no surgery is required, means you can return to normal activities immediately, with some returning to work that day, according to the company.

Who is a good candidate?

Not everyone is considered to be a suitable candidate as it is not ideal for those considered too obese or for those looking at drastic weight-loss options such as a gastric bypass.  Instead, those with slight bulges, often around the abdomen, thighs or flanks, are considered to be the best candidates for the CoolSculpting procedure.

The best candidates, aside from those looking for results, should be in great health, within 20 to 30 pounds of their target body weight, have healthy skin and discreet fat that can be pulled from the body.

Which areas can CoolSculpting treat?

Due to the size and design of the application, it can be limited to certain areas of fat, including:

Unfortunately, due to the size, larger areas, such as the shoulders cannot be treated.  Be sure to talk with your doctor for more information as to which areas are suitable for your situation.

How long does CoolSculpting last?

Once CoolSculpting kills off the fat cells, then they do not come back, making the process “permanent.” However, if you gain your weight back after the treatment, then all of the treated areas could once again, look like your before pictures in the future.

Does CoolSculpting hurt?

According to 77PlasticSurgery.com, the pain levels, as Dr. Larry Fan states, will generally depend on the device your doctor chooses.  The older devices are deemed to be comfortable, with about 15 percent of patients who had the procedure call it painful, while the newer devices, such as the CoolAdvantage device, was very comfortable for most, with less than 10 percent calling the process painful.  Some patients will feel fine the entire time, while others may experience some pain after the procedure for a few weeks after.  Generally, for most, ibuprofen every eight hours can help subside the pain, but in extreme cases, a prescription pain medication or compression garment may be needed.

Tips to know

To find a clinician who specializes with this procedure, the official website offers a “find a provider” tool.

As with any procedure, surgical or not, side effects do persist.  During the CoolSculpting procedure, patients may feel a tingling, aching, cramping and/or stinging sensation at the site of the application, but for most, these feelings will subside as the area starts to numb.  After the procedure completes, common side effects can include itching, aching, skin sensitivity, cramping, tenderness, tingling, stinging, firmness, blanching, swelling and/or temporary redness at the affected area, according to the company’s FAQs.  The company does note they usually resolve itself within a few days, but in the case of any concerns, it’s important to seek immediate medical attention.

CoolSculpting is not designed to help treat cellulite as it has no effects on the skin laxity.  Since the treatment targets the specific fat cells, the skin and surrounding tissue, often the culprit of cellulite will remain intact; however, it doesn’t mean it cannot help as many doctors will often combine CoolSculpting with other treatments to help improve the appearance of the cellulite.

How Much Does Chantix Cost?

Chantix, the #1 prescribed quit smoking aid, is a prescription-based drug that is designed to help people quit smoking, effectively reducing the symptoms felt when people quit smoking.

How much does Chantix cost?

The costs of Chantix, as with any prescription medication, will depend on the pharmacy you use, your health insurance policy and the quantity prescribed.  With a few options and prices varying across pharmacies, we broke down the averages we were given when we called a few pharmacies, such as CVS, Walgreens, Walmart and Costco, and included our findings below in the table:

Starting Month Box- 53 tablets: $425
- 106 tablets: $850
- 159 tablets: $1,250
1 mg Tablet- 53 tablets: $425
- 106 tablets: $850
- 159 tablets: $1,250

NOTE:  These are the prices of Chantix without any insurance.  These prices can decrease if you implement any of the savings tips mentioned below.

Chantix, thankfully, is covered by most private health insurance policies, including Medicare.  If you have health insurance, be sure to check with your provider to see what you’re responsible for as the costs will greatly vary on so many factors such as your policy, co-pay and annual deductible.  With these factors, it can be hard to offer an exact estimate, but from the quotes gathered online, it appeared insurance card holders paid anywhere from as little as $0 to as much as $450+ for a 30-day supply.

Since you will have to take Chantix for a full 12 weeks to see full effects, you should be prepared to spend about $1,200+ for the full treatment course without insurance.

How to save on Chantix

Save via Chantix:  On the official website, eligible patients can save up to $75 per monthly prescription if they qualify for the savings card.  According to the terms and conditions, the co-pay savings card is not valid for those on Medicare, Medicare or other federal/state reimbursement program.  It’s also not available for those who are eligible via their private insurance as well.  To see if you qualify, follow the link above, fill out the questionnaire form and if so, you can download the card to present at your local pharmacy just like you would your private insurance.

Pfizer RxPathways:  Aside from the downloadable savings coupon, Pfizer offers the Pfizer RxPathways program, a program designed to connect eligible patients with a range of programs that can offer financial assistance.  Offering more in terms of savings, you can see if you qualify by visiting pfizerrxpathways.com.

Third-party coupon websites:  Regardless of your financial circumstances, online third-party pharmacy websites can help you save money if your insurance doesn’t cover it or offer adequate coverage.  GoodRx.com, for example, a popular pharmacy coupon-based website, allows you to search for the drug, see the costs at your local pharmacy and print the coupon immediately.  Just like your private health insurance card, you can present this coupon to pay the price you see on the website.  Keep in mind, however, that you will not be able to use your private insurance with this coupon option.

Larger supply:  As you can see in our costs table above, the larger your supply is at the time of pickup, the more you can potentially save if your doctor prescribes you a longer supply.  Ask your doctor if he or she can prescribe a 90-day supply instead of a 30 day to help cut down the costs by more than 10%.

Shop around:  Pharmacies greatly vary with pricing, even if you have health insurance.  Be sure to call at least three to five pharmacies to see what they charge.

Chantix overview

Chantix, when used together with a support program, can help you quit smoking.  When prescribed by your doctor, he or she will ask you to set a date when you plan to quit smoking, and then, with this date, you will begin your treatment one week before this date, but your doctor may tell you to start the medicine anytime and quit smoking between days eight and 35 of your treatment.  For most, doctors will ask you to stay on the prescription for at least 12 weeks, and if it’s deemed successful, your doctor may ask you to continue for another 12 weeks to make sure you stop 100 percent.  All patients will vary, meaning it’s extremely important to follow your doctor’s advice; do not take more, less or even stop without your doctor’s permission.

The dosage amounts will vary for each patient, but for most, adults will start with a smaller dosage, around 0.5 milligrams once a day during the first three days, followed by 0.5 milligrams twice per day during days four through seven, and lastly, one milligram once a day until the end of treatment after day eight.

What does Chantix do?

Whenever you smoke, the nicotine from the cigarette is sent to your brain, where it is then attached to the nicotine receptors.  Once attached, a chemical known as dopamine is then released, making you feel good, the feeling you often feel after smoking.  However, as this dopamine level drops, your brain will crave more, making you reach for yet another cigarette.  This is where Chantix comes into play since it is designed to attach to those nicotine receptors, blocking the nicotine from ever attaching.  While taking it, dopamine is still released, but it will be much less when in comparison to nicotine.  To see how it works in full detail, refer to the official Chantix “how it works” video.

Chantix side effects

Quitting smoking naturally can often come with a variety of symptoms as your body tries to kick the habit, but adding in Chantix can make it feel as if the “lousy-like” feeling is due to the medicine, but most of the time, it’s due to your body kicking the habit.  The most common side effects while taking Chantix, according to Pfizer, can include nausea, sleeping problems, strange dreams and/or digestive difficulties.  The FDA also alerted the public that it can cause serious seizures and/or negative interactions when taken with alcohol.

Tips to know

Chantix may become a generic after the patent expires in November 2020.  This will all depend on other patents, FDA approval and if any manufacturers decide they want to make it.
