The University of Texas Golf Club, an exclusive and upscale golf club located in Austin, Texas, was created for the purpose of building a permanent home base for the University of Texas golf teams and secondary home for the University of Texas tennis teams.

How much does a University of Texas Golf Club membership cost?

According to unconfirmed sources online, initiation fees are said to be around $40,000 and monthly dues exceed $300 to $600+, depending on the membership types, which we will discuss below.  Use these as an estimate only as they are not confirmed.  For more information, we highly recommend you contact the club directly.  All memberships are subject to availability as per the club.

MyAvidGolfer.com named this club as one of the best in its luxury category, with initiation fees reported to be $40,000 or more.

TexasOutside.com, with their review, stated the monthly dues are said to be $401 to $600, with initiation fees in the $25,000 to $40,000 range.

The membership options

Local Longhorn All Sport Membership –  A membership options which allows full access to all amenities, including unlimited golf, indoor/outdoor tennis, fitness, swimming, dining and access to all social events. Tee times and court times may be reserved one week in advance throughout the year with priority registration for all major club tournaments. The initiation deposit is a refundable deposit.

Local Longhorn Membership – This membership class allows full access to all amenities, including unlimited golf, fitness, swimming, dining and access to all social events. Tee times may be reserved one week in advance throughout the year with priority registration for all major club tournaments. The initiation deposit is a refundable deposit.

Burnt Orange Tennis Membership –  Allows access to all indoor/outdoor tennis courts, the fitness center, swimming complex, dining and social events. Court times may be reserved one week in advance throughout the year. This membership class is not allowed to use the golf course, driving range and other golf practice facilities.

Burnt Orange Social Membership – Allows access to the clubhouse, dining options, social events and the swimming complex.  This membership class will not have access to golf and tennis related amenities.

Orange & White All Sports Membership – Privileges include access to golf, the fitness center, swimming, dining and social events. Tee times and court times may be reserved one week in advance throughout the year with priority registration for all major club tournaments. This membership class will not have access to all tennis facilities.

Regional Memberships – These memberships are offered to individuals not living in Guadalupe, Lee, Burnet Travis, Williamson, Coryell, Burleson, Fayette, Gonzales Bastrop, Hays, Caldwell, Comal, Blanco, Milam, Bell, Llano, Gillespie, Kendall, San Saba, Lampasas or Coryell counties. Regional Memberships are only available to prospective members who do not live or work in local counties or reside 30 consecutive days or 60 days or more in one calendar year in the local counties.

Regional Longhorn All Sports Membership –  An option which allows full access to golf, the indoor/outdoor tennis courts, fitness center, swimming pool dining and social events.  Tee times and court times may be made one week in advance throughout the year with priority registration for all major club tournaments. The initiation deposit is a refundable deposit.

Burnt Orange All Sports Membership – Allows limited tennis access, 10 rounds of golf each year, and access to the fitness center, swimming pool, dining and social activities. Golf rounds are available for family members only and all rounds played by each family member are applied as the total.  Tee times may be made five days in advance throughout the year. On home football game weekends, tee times may be made ten days in advance, and a member must assign one family member.  All guest play is on the available basis only. All tournament participation is subject to space availability only. The initiation fee is non-refundable but may be used for an upgrade.

Burnt Orange Golf Membership – An option which allows 10 rounds of golf every year, and access to the fitness center, swimming pool, dining options and events. Rounds are for family members only and all rounds played by each family member are applied towards the total.  Tee times may be made five days in advance throughout the year. On home football game weekends, tee times are made ten days in advance. A member must assign one family member to use during this time, and all guest play is on an available basis only. All tournament participation is dependent on space availability. The initiation fee is non-refundable but may be used for an upgrade.

Junior – Available for those who are younger than of 35.  This option allows the member to pay 1/2 of the initiation deposit upon joining and the remainder upon the member’s 35th birthday.

University of Texas Golf Club overview

The University of Texas Golf Club is a 7,412 yard, par 71 championship, designed by Bechtol Russel Golf Design.  According to the official website, the course overlooks Lake Austin and borders the Balcones Natural Wildlife Preserve.  To take a course tour hole by hole, you can so here.  Practice facilities include a driving range and multiple chipping, pitching and putting greens.

Additional amenities, aside from golf, includes the fitness center, six indoor tennis courts, four outdoor tennis courts, a professional tennis shop and a recreational swimming pool with splash pads nearby.

The 16,000 square foot clubhouse offers a fully stocked golf shop, locker rooms, bar areas and dining options, which include the Tower Room, Founders’ Bar and Pavilion.

What are the extra costs?

A golf academy, private lessons, teams, leagues, clinics, outings and tournaments can all be additional fees to budget for.

Most of the social events held throughout the year can have an additional fee to participate.

Green and guest fees will apply to members who don’t have golf privileges.

Tips to know

At the time of this publishing, the club has issued the majority of its memberships and is completing a roster to start a “waiting list” to join.  The club is said to cap its membership at 475.

Being an University of Texas alumni is not a requirement for membership.

Installment plans to pay for memberships are available for the initiation fee or deposit through the club or via financing from the University Federal Credit Union.
