$$3.98 a lb, plus tax. Kansas still charges nearly 7% in sales tax, even on groceries.

I usually bake (in the oven, on cookie sheets) our bacon. Keeps its shape and flavors very well. Bacon is a favorite snack for my youngest granddaughter - age 9.

That's why I started baking our bacon (so much easier to do and easier to reduce fat intake, etc). Ground beef (80% lean) usually costs between $3.25 and $4.00 a pound. I always try to get it at the best price. I'm a retired 78-year old grandma (widowed) and always keep up on current meat prices. I think Wichita's prices are on a level side of affordable. Ham is always well priced here and a great meat for good soups. We don't have steak that often unless I find it on sale and good quality. It's hard to resist good meat at the grocery store. Don't go to the "meat only" stores even though I know their products are very good. I suspect most folks will start looking at economizing more - I've done it by habit for quite some time.
I've started to focus more on cooking/flavoring beans and have so-far, found every-thing quite palatable.
