How Much Does Sugar Cost?

Contrary to what many people believe, sugar is a non-food item that only adds calories to the foods we eat.  It does not have nutritional value at all.  But we sprinkle it on beverages, use it in pastries, and even sing about it.  Sugar makes our life sweet, as the common cliché goes, despite the fact that it is one of the most harmful of foods we consume.

There are two main types of sugar:  white sugar and brown sugar.  These two differ only in crystal size and molasses content.  It is due to the presence of molasses that makes sugar brown.  The darker the brown sugar is, the greater the amount of its molasses content it has.  Sugar is used in so many recipes that many people have it as a staple in their kitchen.  Because it is easily obtained, delicious, and cheap, it is overused in many ways.
