The Professional Sports Authenticator, otherwise known as the PSA, is the most common grader for sports cards.

Every card or collectible graded by PSA uses the PSA 10-point grading scale, which has been accepted and supported industry-wide since 1991.

How much does PSA grading cost?

The cost of PSA card grading will depend on the type of sports card, its value, shipping options, options added and the number of cards sent in.

According to PSAacard.com, the official website, grading and authenticating services can range anywhere from $10 to more than $1,200+.   Generally, the higher the value and the faster the turnaround is, the more you can be prepared to spend.

Dean’s Cards, for example, says the real cost to having a card graded, when you factor in shipping and insurance, will be about $14 to $17 per card; however, if the card were higher in value, don’t be surprised if you’re paying $40 to $300.  In the end, he recommends avoiding the grading process unless the card is very old and is in near perfect condition.

What are the extra costs?

Supersized cards, coins and pins are available at the costs mentioned above; however, they must be submitted as a separate order, effectively increasing the fees.

Tips to know

The estimated turnaround time, depending on the service you choose, can range anywhere from one day for a card value $25,000 or more to about 10 business days for a card worth less than $500.

How can I save money?

If you plan on grading multiple cards throughout the year, then you may want to consider signing up for a membership.  Often costing less than $200 per year, a membership will include a limited number of free gradings per year, fast business turnaround times and exclusive special deals.  From members who have signed up for the membership, they state as long as you take advantage of the free gradings each year, you will come out ahead with your investment.

How Much Does Proton Therapy Cost?

Today, proton therapy, a non-invasive treatment, is known to be most precise and most advanced form of radiation treatment.

Unlike conventional x-ray radiation that often radiates the healthy tissue in its path, proton therapy radiates the tumor site by using proton particles to destroy the tumor, allowing the healthy tissues and organs surrounding the tumor to stay intact.

Proton therapy, being a relatively new procedure, is only available in a limited number of centers in the world, and because of this, it isn’t widely available.

How much does proton therapy cost per treatment?

Proton therapy, when compared to traditional radiation treatments, can be four to seven times more due to the specialized equipment and expertise required to run the equipment.  Without insurance, proton therapy costs can range anywhere from as little as $30,000 to more than $135,000 without insurance.

MedpageToday.com says the costs of proton therapy can range from $30,000 to $120,000.  In contrast, a course of radiosurgery can cost $8,000 to $12,000, but when you research the costs to build the facilities, it can cost upwards of $200 million to build a proton therapy center, when compared to $7 million to build a radiation therapy center.

According to a 2008 report from the Institute for Clinical and Economic Review, the lifetime review for prostate cancer using this approach was $73,000.

The American Cancer Society, according to its findings, found that Medicare pays about $19,000 for a full dose of standard radiation but more than $32,000 for proton therapy.

In most cases, proton therapy will be covered by Medicare and private insurance carriers, and as long as the copays/coinsurance and deductibles are met, there are very little out-of-pocket costs.  However, do keep in mind that insurance coverage is on a case-by-case basis and will greatly depend on your insurance provider, your condition, medical history and other factors.  It’s always best to talk with the insurance company and facility you plan on working with to make sure you’re covered before making any appointments.

Proton therapy overview

Proton therapy will be performed in a specialized theater designed for this specific therapy.  Before the treatment begins, the doctor will first want an MRI scan or CT scan to check the exact position of the tumor.  Depending on the cancer being treated, the specialist may “strap” down the targeted area to prevent the patient from moving.  Once in position, the specialist will leave the room, similar to that of an x-ray, and will begin the proton beam therapy.  The beams will target the tumor, layer by layer, to a very fine detail.  Depending on the size, each session could take up to 15 minutes.

No anesthesia is required, and like an x-ray, a patient shouldn’t feel any pain.  In some extreme cases, patients may often see some irritation on the skin, such as dryness, peeling or reddening.

What are the extra costs?

Before proton therapy is even considered, a doctor will want to determine if you’re a candidate for the therapy.  This therapy is often recommended for cancer that hasn’t spread to any other parts of the body since the therapy can only target one specific region contained in one area.  In order to determine your qualification, your doctor/specialist will want to take a look at your medical records, previous scans and will want to perform an up-to-date cancer screening.  All of these tests will be an additional cost to consider and won’t be included in the estimates mentioned above.

Depending on the patient’s circumstances, some may require more than one session.  In some cases, some may require as many as four to five to see desirable results.  To know if the treatment were successful, it could take anywhere from one to seven weeks, depending on the tumor site.  As time goes on, the treatment time may decrease as the heavier dose begins to increase.  In most cases, the therapy is deemed a success if cancer doesn’t come back within five years after the treatment started.

How can I save money?

Financial assistance is often available to those who meet certain income requirements.  Talk with your doctor or hospital’s finance department to see if they can help offset the costs.

Again, check with your health insurance before setting up an appointment to ensure you’re covered adequately.  In some cases, depending on your health insurance policy, you may need either pre-authorization or your health insurance company may need you to meet certain requirements before acceptance.  Most of the time, a good hospital and/or doctor’s office will be able to tell you exactly what you will be responsible costs wise before your treatment sessions even begin.

How Much Does Prolotherapy Cost?

Prolotherapy. also referred to as proliferation therapy, regenerative injection therapy, or proliferative injection therapy, is an alternative therapy for treating musculoskeletal pain.

During prolotherapy, an irritant substance, known as dextrose, is injected into the patient’s tendon or ligament.  The process allows new tissues to grow, alleviating the pain from the damaged tissue.

Prolotherapy can treat pain caused by injury to the lower back, knees, Achilles tendons, ankles, shoulders, wrists, elbows, and neck.  There are certain conditions that can be treated with this therapy such as osteoarthritis, fibromyalgia, plantar fascitis, costochondritis among others.

How much does prolotherapy cost?

The cost of prolotherapy varies depending on the geographical location, the doctor, the number of sessions, part of the body and the health facility.

Before the treatment even begins, an initial consultation will be required, which can cost around $175 to $300.  After the initial treatment, follow-up treatments will be required, which can cost anywhere from as little as $85 to $475 per session.  Every patient will need a certain number of sessions, so the results can vary, but on average, the total costs from start to finish can average anywhere from $500 to $1,800.

Prolotherapy overview

During the initial consultation, the doctor will want to talk about your health history and perform a physical exam to evaluate the injury or site of pain.

Prolotherapy treatment is a watery injection, typically containing substances such as saline, sarapine or dextrose, in addition to lidocaine.  These injections allow a short period of inflammation and then stimulates the body’s immune system to produce collagen and cartilage which strengthens and restores joints and supports soft tissue, reducing different types of pain.  Typical treatments last no longer than an hour.

During the injection, a local anesthesia will be applied and a sedative, in some cases, may be offered if you need to relax.  The injection is considered to be mild, and the soreness can last for up to seven days.

The average session can take less than 30 minutes, including the prep when you arrive at the facility.

After the procedure, you may experience swelling or stiffness, but it will resolve quickly and people can resume normal activities the next day.

It can take anywhere from two to seven sessions, on average, to see a complete healing.  This will greatly depend on your age, the severity of the injury/disease and the health of the patient.

Follow-up sessions are typically done every four to six weeks.

What are the extra costs?

During the initial consultation, a doctor may want to take an x-ray and/or MRI to inspect the area in question.  These tests, if ordered, will be additional costs to consider.

Some clinics may charge extra for email or phone follow-ups.

In some circumstances, acetaminophen may be recommended to help cope with the injection pain.

Tips to know:

There are certain injuries or conditions that may not work with prolotherapy.  These conditions include a local abscess, bleeding disorders, medication meant to thin the blood, cellulitis, and/or arthritis.  In addition, if there is a ligament or tendon that is completely torn, or if there is a fracture, prolotherapy will not be an option, because, as mentioned, it’s designed for aching joints.  This treatment, in general, is ideal for those who have spine and neck conditions, torn ligaments, foot and ankle problems, as well as TMJ.

Side effects may include pain, numbness, or bleeding at the injection site; lightheadedness; an allergic reaction to the proliferant solution; nerve damage; and/or an infection.

Most private insurance providers, Medicare and Medicaid will not cover this procedure; however, it never hurts to ask.  What you will find is that most clinics will not even participate with insurance companies.  The reason for the lack of coverage is that the therapy is very new and has not provided enough evidence of being successful.

Doctors will recommend eating before the procedure to respond better to the treatment.

As for results, studies have shown 85 to 95 percent of patients experienced an improvement with injections.  The Mayo Clinic, however, has stated there have been mixed results.

The cost of a prosthetic finger will depend on the company you use and the materials the fingers are made from.  Depending on the finger and whether it is partial or full, the prices of prosthetic fingers can vary anywhere from as little as $5,000 for a partial finger to as much as $70,000 for a technologically advanced finger that can move as you could naturally.  This is the price for the design and finger/s alone and will not include the fitting and therapy beforehand.

ABC News did a piece on prosthetic fingers that were made from bike parts.  This device, in particular, could range anywhere from $5,500 for a partial finger to as much as $9,500 for just the thumb.

This USA Today article talked about a man who created a DIY Prosthetic device after an amputation, but the replacements, as the article stated, could cost upwards of $40,000 for an advanced prosthesis.

Another article in the New York Times talked with a company called Touch Bionics, the creators of a device that’s able to replace all of the fingers on the hand.  Their prosthesis was able to use a tiny motor and gearbox that’s mounted on the base.  Including fitting and the occupational therapy, the costs could be in the $60,000 to $75,000 range.

For those who have a health insurance policy, most will find that their policy will cover a portion or even all of the costs as long as the provider you’re using is approved within the insurance company’s network.  On top of this, you will have to show your current level of function to prove it’s medically necessary. Fast becoming the city dweller’s dog of choice, the French Bulldog has risen in the ranks over the years.  He won’t need a lot of exercise nor will he need a large yard to play in, making him a perfect fit for a condo or apartment.

Originating from England, these dogs were originally used with local lace workers, keeping them company and chasing rats out of their rooms.  As the industrial revolution took its toll, these dogs found their way to France, where shopkeepers loved their company just as much.

The cost of the French Bulldog depends on the age, gender, fur color, health condition, breeder, parent’s history, geographical location and inclusions with the adoption.  On average, the prices of a French bulldog can range anywhere from as little as $1,200 for a non-registered puppy from a backyard breeder to more than $5,500 for an AKC registered puppy from champion parents.  These costs, when compared to other breeds, tend to be quite high due to the cost to breed and the fact a c-section is always required at birth, a much pricier procedure when compared to a natural birth.

A cream, pied or black French Bulldog will be the three most common colors you will see on the market, and because of this, these dogs will tend to be the cheapest option.  The colors can often cost $2,500 to $5,500, while a rarer color could be double or even triple this, depending on the color combination and factors mentioned prior.  In fact, if the dog has a “rare” or “fad” color, such as lilac, for example, then the costs can be in the $15,000 to $30,000 range.  Other colors, aside from the primary three, can include fawn, blue fawn, blue brindle, chocolate and fawn.

On the official AKC Marketplace, breeders who listed their prices asked for anywhere between $3,000 for a 15-week old puppy to as much as $5,500 for an AKC registered puppy from champion parents.

At PuppyFind.com, a popular online dog classified website, there were close to 3,000 listings at the time of this writing, with prices ranging anywhere from as little as $1,200 to more than $12,000.  The costs, from what we researched, were due to the fur color and AKC registration paperwork.

A teacup French Bulldog, while not a true French Bulldog and is considered to be a designer dog, can cost closer to $3,500 to $5,000.  A teacup can’t and will not be recognized by the AKC if you were to adopt one.

The costs, however, could be much less if you were to rescue one from a local rescue.  If you were to go this route, an older French Bulldog could be adopted for as little as $250 to $550, depending on the rescue group you choose.

What is going to be included in the adoption fee?

At a minimum, a reputable breeder should include a written contract, registration papers, up-to-date vaccinations, health guarantee and a certified vet exam.  AKC breeders, aside from these inclusions, will also include the AKC registration paperwork, microchip, deworming, and in some cases, lifetime support.  they should also include a clearance from the Canine Eye Registry Foundation, hip evaluations from the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals, PennHIP or Ontario Veterinary College (OVC), and an OFA patella (knee) evaluation.  While optional, some may also include an OFA cardiac and thyroid exam.  To be certain, check out the official CHIC website to see if the parents were registered.

What are the extra costs?

Recurring costs, as with any pet dog, needs to be factored in.  This will include food, accessories, dog sitting and vet visits.  A healthy dog can cost more than $700, but since the French Bulldog is susceptible to certain health problems, the costs could be much greater than this.  According to VetStreet.com, a French Bulldog is prone to something known as brachycephalic airway syndrome, condition dogs with a flat face often face.  When the bones and tissues are compressed, it can obstruct their breathing, causing a myriad of problems, including an elongated soft palate, laryngeal collapse or a narrowed nasal cavity.  Other conditions include spinal malformations, eye problems and malabsorption disorders.

These dogs won’t shed much, but twice a year, they will lose their undercoat, usually during the fall and spring seasons.

Today, the coat color is an enormous problem in the breed now as the breed standard allows only certain colors: brindle, fawn, and pied (or white which is an extreme form of pied). They are the only ones who may be shown. The others (blue — whether blue brindle or blue pied or blue fawn aka lilac), merle, etc are considered to be disqualifiers and may not be shown. Most were created by dishonest people breeding them into the lines by crosses with other breeds. The only people who breed and sell them for exorbitant prices are dishonest and not reputable. Reputable breeders breed to the breed standard and do not exploit gullible people.

When adopting a dog, always consider a shelter or rescue group.  This option helps a dog in need, saves you a lot of money, and last but not least, it will help a caring organization in your area.  Even if you’re unable to find a French Bulldog, you may be able to find a breed that closely resembles it.

Don’t focus on the costs if you do decide to purchase from a breeder.  If you’re going to invest thousands, it’s best to buy an AKC registered dog only.  Backyard breeders who can’t produce paperwork often breed for fun and for profits, not knowing how the delicate breeding process works, even if they seem like they know what they are talking about.  A good breeder will always offer lifetime support, a lengthy health guarantee and will be very open about their adoption process.

How much does it cost to wrap a car?

With a car wrap, there are two types often available: a partial wrap, which is a wrap that can apply to a certain section of the vehicle such as the hood or doors, and a full wrap, which will wrap the entire car.  A partial wrap can cost $750 to $2,000 while a full wrap can cost $2,000 to as much as $5,000.  The costs can go up if a customized design were needed.  The cost will depend on the type of wrap, the size of your car, if you need a customized design and the company you choose.

FirstQuarterFinance.com does a great job breaking down the costs of wrapping a truck.  According to them, the costs, if you were to do it on your own, could cost $800 to $3,1500; however, if you were to have a professional do it, the costs could be anywhere from as little as $2,500 to more than $6,000.

TKO Graphix, a vehicle wrap professional company located in Indiana, claimed the costs to wrap a car could be anywhere between $1,500 and $4,000, but there are many variables, including the need for a wrap or decal, the size, number of vehicles and if you need a design.

Sunrise Signs, another professional located in New Jersey, stated graphics start at $500, partial wraps start at $1,000 and a full vehicle wrap will start at $1,800.

Factors that affect the cost

The size of your vehicle

One of the biggest factors will be the size of your vehicle.  Most shops, from what we have researched, will charge by the square foot.  In other words, a small two-door car will be much less than a full-sized SUV since it has less space to wrap.  Further, aside from the size, much more labor will be involved with a larger sized car.

Full vs. partial

As mentioned, there are two types of wraps available — a partial wrap or full wrap.  A partial wrap can significantly cut the costs since it will only cover a portion of a car.

Design

The designs being printed on the vinyl can affect the costs quite a bit as well.  For example, a solid print with no logos or anything else can be much less than a print with stripes, a logo, lettering and images.  On top of this, if you were to need a custom graphic designer, then you will need to pay their hourly rate as well.

The installer

Like any professional service, one installer can be much more than another.  Why?  The better their reputation is, the higher the demand will be, effectively increasing the costs.  The same can be said about a nice, five-star steak dinner; you will get what you pay for.  When choosing an installer, always ask about the materials they are using, and if possible, try to see a previous job in person to see how the wrap looks like up close.

Type of vinyl

The most common types of vinyl can include carbon fiber, chrome and matte, and the most popular brand installers tend to use includes 3M, Avery Dennison, Arlon and Oracal.  Depending on the finish and manufacturer you or the installer chooses, the costs can greatly vary.  For instance, brushed and chrome finishes are much more expensive and can be harder to install.

Wrapping a car overview

Before the wrap is applied, the shop will provide a “proof” to show you exactly what the wrap is going to look like on your vehicle.  During this time, they will take accurate measurements, design the graphics and create a mockup using your vehicle on the computer.  Once approved, the process will start.

When generated, the wraps will be printed using a vinyl sheet and then will be laminated to protect it from the UV rays and any abrasions.  Once laminated, the wrap will be affixed to the car’s body in the designated area.

Typical jobs take no more than two weeks to complete unless it’s an in-demand professional who has a larger-than-average backlog.

Depending on the company, some may include the professional design, but regardless of who you choose, you will be free to decide whether you want it to be designed or customized by the shop’s designer or simply design it on your own.

At a local grocery store or a meat market, prime rib is usually going to cost anywhere from $7 to as much as $27+ per pound.   This price can be much cheaper during the major holidays, usually around $4 to $8 per pound.

Sam’s Club, for example, has a seven-pound bone-in prime rib that retails for close to $120 or $17 per pound.

At Costco, according to the Costco Insider, the cost of prime rib with the bone in retails for $14.99 per pound, while the seasoned USDA Choice prime rib retails for closer to $10.69 per pound.

The costs of digging a trench will depend on the soil, how deep it will be, what’s being installed, the machinery being used, and if any obstacles, such as rocks or roots, exist.
