How much does a Belgian Malinois cost?

On average, Belgian Malinois puppies can cost anywhere from $600 to $2,000 each.  The cost, as with most puppies, will depend on the dog’s history, health, breeder, geographical location and the inclusions.

At, an online pet classified website, had close to 200 listings at the time of this publishing, with prices ranging from $600 to $1,500 on average.  Trained Belgian Malinois, however, could cost upwards of $2,500+

According to most of the AKC listings we had found on the official AKC Marketplace, the prices for puppies younger than 12 weeks old were often listed for $1,000 to $1,500.  Most of these reputable AKC breeders included a full health checkup, a hip guarantee, deworming, vaccinations and a microchip.

What is going to be included in the adoption fee?

Most reputable breeders should include registration papers, up-to-date vaccinations, a vet exam, health certificate and guarantee.  An AKC registered dog should come with all of the appropriate AKC paperwork.

What are the extra costs?

Shipping, if adopting from a seller out of state, can cost $200 to $400 to ship via an airline or ground.

Don’t forget to factor in all of the recurring costs such as vet visits, food, toys, accessories, grooming sessions and dog sitting services.  A healthy dog can easily cost $50+ a month, whereas an unexpected vet bill could cost well into the thousands.

The breed is fairly easy to train, but as with any puppy, you should highly consider professional training sessions to teach it the basics of sit, stay and lay down.

While the coat doesn’t require much in terms of maintenance due to its harsh and coarse coat, it can still shed, requiring some brushing sessions.  If you choose to do so, be sure to factor in dog grooming sessions if necessary to remove any excess dog hair to keep its coat in a healthy condition.
