The Belle Haven Country Club, located in Alexandria, Virginia, is across the river from Washington D.C.  The 150 acres, bordered by the George Washington Parkway and Potomac River, provides an abundance of culture.

Founded in the 1920s when David Janney Howell purchased the land, he initially created a golf course and used the other portion of the land to develop a residential subdivision.  What was a nine-hole golf course at the time has soon evolved into a full-service club boasting an 18-hole championship golf course designed by Arthur Hills.

As per a job posting we found online, the initiation fee is said to be $82,000, with annual dues in the $7,080 ($590 a month) range.  This is the price range for the active members only, and if you were to choose a different membership, such as a tennis or social, for example, then the prices could be much less.  Use these prices as an estimate only as these prices are not confirmed.  For official pricing, refer to the club’s official membership department for more information.

The membership options

Active – Active members are able to enjoy all of the amenities, including golf, tennis, swimming, fitness, dining and access to all social events.

Young Executive – Segmented by age, Young Executive members may enjoy the same amenities as an Active member but will pay a reduced initiation fee and monthly dues.

Tennis – Tennis members may enjoy all of the amenities mentioned prior with the exception of golf related activities.

Social – Social members are able to enjoy access to the swimming pool, fitness center, dining and all social events.

Non-Resident – A membership option designed for those who live at least 50 miles from the club.  A Non-Resident member may enjoy all amenities but will be limited 30 times a year.

Belle Haven Country Club overview

The golf course is a par-72, 6,965 yard, 18-hole championship golf course.  Considered by the club to be one of the finest in the Mid-Atlantic region, it was redesigned in 2002.  To take a tour in pictures, you can do so via the club’s official website.  GolfTheUnitedStates.com offers a personal review of the course with pictures as well.  Additional golf amenities include full-service locker rooms, a fully stocked pro shop, bag storage options, shoe repair and a golf practice facility. The club also offers private/group lessons, a golf camp and golf programs.

Aside from the golfing amenities, the club also offers a 68,000 square foot clubhouse, eight outdoor clay courts, five DecoTurf indoor courts, two outdoor platform tennis courts, a 2,500 square foot fitness center, saunas, a steam room, a kiddie pool and an eight-lane 25-meter outdoor pool.

Several dining options are available, including the 19th Hole and the Center Court/Sharks Cafe.

What are the extra costs?

The club, as with most country clubs, will have a food and beverage minimum that must be met quarterly.  At this time, the fees are unknown.

The private/group lessons, camps, leagues, tournaments and programs, as mentioned earlier, can incur additional costs for both tennis and/or golf.

Youth programs for aquatics, tennis, golf and specialized camps are available throughout the year.

Social events, which are held throughout the year, will almost always have a fee to participate.  Popular annual events include the Independence Day Celebration, the Halloween Extravaganza, Thanksgiving Dinner and New Year’s Eve party, to name a few.
