How Much Does a Bethesda Country Club Membership Cost?

In 1947, the now Bethesda Country Club purchased 156 acres from the Washington Aviation Country Club, which, at the time, included a clubhouse, two tennis courts and a nine-hole golf course.

How much does a Bethesda Country Club membership cost?

The costs of joining the Bethesda Country Club, as with any country club, will greatly depend on the membership option you choose.  From our research, the higher end membership options have an initiation fee north of $110,000, and according to the Bethesda Magazine, the waiting list can be as long as 10 years.

The membership options

Charter – A membership option that offers voting privileges and is available to anyone older than 21 years old.  Charter members will enjoy full use of all the club’s facilities.

Legacy – Open to any member who is either the son, son-in-law, daughter or daughter-in-law of an active Charter member.  These members will pay the full 50 percent of the initiation fee by a Legacy member and will be subject to Board approval.

Young Executive – A membership option opened to anyone who is at least 21 years old but younger than 45 years old.

Tennis – Allows access to all facilities at the club with the exception of the 18-hole golf course, practice driving range, putting green, practice area and the surrounding grounds.

Social – Social members may use all club facilities with the exception of the tennis facility and all golf options.

Bethesda Country Club overview

The club offers 10 tennis courts (8 outdoor clay courts and two climate controlled indoor decoturf hard courts), swimming pools, a fitness center, spa and its well-known 18-hole championship golf course along with a practice driving range, practice putting green and short practice area.  To view the golf course, the club does offer an official virtual tour on its website.

Dining options, also available on site, includes The Club Grill and Lounge, The Family Grill, The Pub, Folksy’s Cafe and the poolside cabana during the summer pool season.

What are the extra costs?

Clinics, programs, lessons and leagues are available for both golf, swim and tennis for an additional fee.

Social events, which are commonly held throughout the year, will often have a fee to attend.

Tips to know:

In 1992, the golf course was completely renovated by golf course architect, Arthur Hills.  This four year period resulted in new bunkers, tees, practice areas, greens, cart paths and an enlarged lake.  Later, in 1997, the club renovated the clubhouse to almost double its size.
