The Country Club of Virginia (CCV) is considered to be a premier private membership club located at the western city limit in Richmond’s west end.

Organized in 1908, this prestigious club is known for being a traditional, family-oriented, private membership club that is dedicated to providing its members with the right services, quality products and programs.

According to the Richmond Times-Dispatch, the estimated fees of a Country Club of Virginia membership cost in recent years is $75,000 to join for the initiation fee, and the monthly dues average about $500 per month.  Seeing these fees were sourced a few years ago, they could be out of date, so it is best to use it as an estimate only, not as the prices set in stone.  Always be sure to discuss with the membership department of the country club for exact figures.

Country Club of Virginia overview

The club offers three 18-hole golf courses. The original course, the Westhampton Course, was built by Herbert Barker in 1908 and was later renovated in 1921 by Donald Ross and again in 1931 by Fred Findlay.  The second course, the James River Course was renovated in 1992 and restored in 2003.  The last course is the Tuckahoe Creek Course.  To view the courses in detail, the official website offers a hole-by-hole description with video and pictures.

The club offers two properties, approximately seven miles apart.  The Westhampton campus offers an 80,000 square foot clubhouse, a racquet sports facility, fitness center and aquatics.  The James River campus offers a 36,000 square foot clubhouse plus the 36 holes of golf.  Both campuses, when combined, sprawl more than 1,100 acres, with Westhampton on 150 and the James River on 975.

The clubs also host weddings, multiple social events, family celebrations, corporate meetings and sports outings throughout the year.

Dining options include The Grill, Ollie’s, The River and the Poolside Cafe.

What are the extra costs?

Guest fees apply to non-resident family members and junior guests.  These fees can apply on the golf course, at the tennis facility and fitness center.

Tournaments, clinics, leagues and private lessons are all prices to consider budgeting for.

Social events, held throughout the year, can be an additional cost to budget for as most of these events will have a fee to attend.

The James River Course has been the site of the U.S. Amateur Championship.
