How Much Does the El Caballero Country Club Cost?
The El Caballero Country Club, a golf club located in the San Fernando Valley of southern California, was the name of a creek that drained rainfalls from the Santa Monica Mountains.
In the 19th century, the land was sold to ranchers, and by 1915, the ranch was sold to Edgar Rice Burroughs, who had the vision to build a golf course.
At first, the golf club did not attract many people, but by 1929, the Burroughs lost the whole ranch due to the Great Depression. After that, a man named Norman Herman purchased the land and after his death, in 1957, the founder of today’s El Caballero golf club — Bernie Shapiro — purchased it.
How much does an El Caballero Country Club membership cost?
The country club has a variety of membership types to choose from and each membership varies in price as is the case with any country club membership fees. The higher-end golf membership has an initiation fee of about $45,000, according to the HollywoodReporter.com.
As for the monthly dues, we did have to do some digging in order to come up with an estimate. Even though this LA Times article sourced is older, the general manager, at the time, said the club limited the memberships to 500. Assuming this is true as of today, the total membership dues the club reported in 2015 was $6,265,000, according to their public non-profit tax returns. Doing the math, even though there are multiple memberships, our estimate for a full privileged membership would be in the $12,000 a year range ($1,000/month). Again, these are just an estimate based on the public numbers and dues reported.
