How Much Does the Hacienda Golf Club Cost?

Written by:  Howmuchisit.org Staff

The Hacienda Golf Club is a premier, private golf club located in La Habra Heights, California.

Born during the Golden Age of golf, this golf course owes its origin to Alphonso Bell, a venture entrepreneur who also invested in the oil business. The first nine holes opened in 1920 and the second in 1923.  For more than 80 years, the design and layout has remained the same.

With a pinch more than 400 golf members, there are no starting times, and a wait time for teeing off is rare.

How much does a Hacienda Golf Club membership cost?

The costs of joining the Hacienda Golf Club, as with most clubs, will greatly depend on the type of membership you sign up for.  From our research via unconfirmed sources, a Regular Golf membership will cost about $25,000 to join, while a social membership will average $600 a year plus expenses.

All classes of memberships are available to American citizens older than 21 years old.  All new members require introduction and sponsorship by existing Hacienda Members as well as the completion of a candidate information form and personal interview.

The membership options

Regular Golfing Membership:  This is an equity membership with full membership privileges.

Junior Membership: A non-equity golfing membership is available to members between the ages of 21 and 35 years old and offers full membership privileges as well.

Social Membership:  This is a non-equity, social activity only membership.  No golf is included with this membership option.

Hacienda Golf Club overview

The club’s 18-hole golf course, designed by William Watson, measures 6660 yards and has a 133 slope rating and 72.7-course rating as per GolfNow.com.  You can view the club’s official scorecard on its website.

Aside from the golf course, the club also offers a swimming complex and The Lounge Restaurant.

What are the extra costs?

Programs, tournaments, clinics, outings and private lessons, all offered at the club, can incur additional costs.

The social events held throughout the year will more than likely have a fee to participate.

Tips to know

William Watson, the designer of the course, immigrated from Scotland and was considered one of the first golf professionals in California.

The club has hosted the Southern California Golf Association Amateur Championship three times and the SCGA Amateur Championship in 1994.

The club’s dress code policy can be found here.

Originally known as the Hacienda Country Club, the name changed in 1943 when the depression caused the club to declare bankruptcy.  At that time, the members banded together to purchase the land back for $50,000 and later renamed it the Hacienda Golf Club as it’s named today.
