How much do boxer puppies cost?

On average, the average cost of a Boxer puppy will depend on its age, gender, quality, nationality, its bloodline, the breeder and who you’re purchasing it from. A high-quality Boxer puppy, on average, can cost anywhere from as little as $650 to more than $1,800.  Generally, those who sell a dog without any paperwork will often be near the lower end, whereas an AKC registered Boxer, with all of the necessary paperwork, can be closer to $1,300 or more.

On, for example, there were more than 650 listings at the time of this writing, with prices ranging anywhere from as little as $600 to more than $2,000.

The official AKC Marketplace, for instance, has a handful of breeders who list their prices, and from what we researched, the prices were anywhere from $1,500 to $2,500 for an AKC registered litter.

A reputable breeder should always include some sort of health guarantee, up-to-date vaccinations, a certified vet checkup, a travel crate if being shipped and registration paperwork.  Most high-quality breeders will also dock the tails, crop the ears, include an OFA hip/heart certification, and microchip their puppies before offering them up for adoption.  However, since all breeders will vary, it’s best to know what’s included in your adoption fees.

Before adoption, the breeder you’re working with will have you sign a contract, explaining everything you will receive during the adoption and what they expect from you.  For example, if the puppies weren’t spayed or neutered upon adoption, there may be a clause explaining when it should be done.

What are the extra costs?

If your dog can’t be picked up locally, then it will have to be shipped either via air or ground, depending on the distance.  Some breeders avoid the airlines and would rather meet in the middle, whereas others will ship the dog across state lines for a nominal fee, which is usually around $250 to $400, depending on the distance being traveled.

Tips to know:

Boxer puppies will measure between 21 and 26 inches tall and can weigh up to 50 to 70 pounds, with females, on average, weighing about 20 percent less.  They are known to be quite strong, powerful and are known for their smaller nose and powerful jaws.

A Boxer will have a shorter, smooth and shiny coat, that can include common coat colors such brown and white, also referred to as brindle and fawn.  White Boxers also exist, but most white Boxers are found to be deaf.  A black mask will surround the nose and jaws and white markings, referred to as flashings, will be seen in the stomach, feet and chest, but on average, it shouldn’t take more than one-third of its body.

The Boxer is known to be very attentive, loyal to its owner and highly intelligent.

If healthy, the average Boxer can live 10 to 12 years.

A Boxer can be suitable for apartment life, but it doesn’t mean they won’t need exercise daily.  At least once per day, a Boxer should be able to walk and/or roam free in a contained yard for at least 30 minutes.

Boxers are known to be wonderful with children.

Major health problems for the Boxer breeder can include subaortic stenosis, boxer cardiomyopathy, thyroid issues and/or hip dysplasia.

How can I save money?

With so many Boxers out there, consider checking out a local adoption center or rescue group that specializes with this particular breed.  Granted, if you were to find one, it would be older, but you could feel good knowing you’re helping a good cause and offering a dog a forever home.  It’s not uncommon to find an adoption fee less than $250.
