The costs, like other fertility drugs, will depend on a few factors.
How much does Menopur cost?
The costs of Menopur will depend on a few factors, including your health insurance and the pharmacy you choose and based on these factors, from our research, it appears the costs of five 75iu vials could cost about $950 or about $190 per vial without insurance at most of your big-name pharmacies such as CVS and Walmart. However, while researching, we did find a few pharmacies online that did offer lower costs and additional ways to save, which we explain below.
Does insurance cover Menopur?
According to GoodRX.com, Medicare plans will not cover the medication and the same can be said about private health insurance plans from what we gathered online; however, this doesn’t always appear to be the case. As there are so many health insurance plans on the market, it’s best to talk with your health insurance company to know what you may be responsible for. In the end, however, be prepared to hear no as an answer.
How to save on Menopur
Patient assistance programs
Multiple patient assistance programs designed specifically for patients looking for fertility treatments online. The Heart Beat Program, offered by Walgreens, for example, offers select fertility medications at no cost as long as you qualify. Reading the fine print, for example, the qualifications state the applicant needs to be a female, a U.S. citizen, have a diagnosis of cancer with no chemotherapy within the last six months and your doctor determined fertility preservation treatment is medically appropriate. This is just one of the man assistance programs available, so it doesn’t hurt to search for one online to see if you can receive a partial discount or even receive your medication at no cost.
Specialty pharmacies
Most people often think of Walgreens, CVS, and Walmart when they have to fill a prescription, but did you know online specialty pharmacies exist? MDR Fertility Pharmacy, for example, is highly recommended from a lot of the research we did, and when we glanced at the price list, it appeared the prices were almost half of what a local pharmacy chain would charge. While you cannot visit the pharmacy in person, the official website claims they offer “unmatched pricing, free injection supplies and free next day delivery, to name a few.” Like the patient assistance programs, be sure to search online to see if any specialty pharmacies exist to help you save more than the big-name chains. If you purchase from this type of pharmacy, however, the packaging may be different. For example, IVF Pharmacy notes in the United States, it sold as individual vials, while in Europe, it’s sold in boxes of 10.
Menopur overview
Menopur is used as an injection and is a highly purified preparation of the naturally derived gonadotropins known as hMG. Containing equal amounts of two types of hormonal activity: the follicle-stimulating hormone, which helps stimulate the egg production, and the luteinizing hormone, which is able to help the egg mature and release, the goal of this injection is to help stimulate the eggs for healthy women who are unable to develop eggs naturally. Menopur can also be used for men who suffer from deficient hormonal stimulation to help stimulate the production of their sperm.
The recommended daily dose should not exceed 450 IU and should not be used beyond 20 days.
