The Missouri Athletic Club (MAC) in downtown St. Louis, Missouri is a traditional men’s club and athletic club whose notable members include President Harry S. Truman and Charles Lindbergh.

Recognized as a Platinum Club of America, the MAC provides a broad collection of benefits to members and their families, with the private club experience extending to reciprocal clubs.

How much does a Missouri Athletic Club membership cost?

On average, the monthly dues can range anywhere from $300 to $400 per month, and the initiation fees can range anywhere from $600 to $2,000.  The costs, similar to any other athletic club, will greatly depend on the type of membership you sign up for.

A membership to the Missouri Athletic Club, however, is by invitation only and all submitted applications are reviewed by the Membership Committee and the Board of Governors prior to approval.  Potential members, from what we read, require at least two sponsors.

According to This RiverfrontTimes.com article, for example, claims the initiation fees can range anywhere from $600 to $2,000.

This Patch.com article also confirms the pricing, saying a source said the average membership dues here average $350 to $375 a month.

The membership options

Resident – Available to anyone older than 35 years old and maintains either a residence or business within 50 miles of the club.

Non-Resident – A membership option designed for any member older than 21 years old who resides more than 50+ miles from the club.

Junior Resident – Available to any member younger than 35 years old who either maintains a residence or business within 50 miles of the club.

Associate – Designed for any member younger than 31 who maintains either a residence or business within 50 miles of the club.

Clergy – For any member of any denomination or relegation, duly ordains and actively engaged in religious work.

Emeritus Life – Any Resident or Clergy member can apply for this membership as long as they have been active with the club for at least 10 years old and are older than 65 years old.

Missouri Athletic Club membership overview

The club offers two locations:  Downtown and West.  The Downtown location, as per the club, offers a 25-yard indoor heated pool, gymnasium, squash, basketball, racquetball and handball courts, free weights, an indoor track, cardio equipment, whirlpools, tanning, steam rooms, saunas, locker rooms, tanning, massage therapy and a billiards room.  The West location offers most of the same amenities as the Downtown location, but the gym size, pool size and the number of courts available vary.

MAC offers basketball, volleyball, tennis, squash, racquetball and handball leagues.

Members have access to close to 80 clubs nationally and more than 10 clubs internationally.  You can view the list of clubs here.

What are the extra costs?

In addition to the monthly dues, members will be charged an additional fee for the outdoor pool, golf program, fitness center, parking, the Cherry Diamond magazine and the food and beverage minimum.  However, for those a part of the Diamond Club, members won’t be charged an additional fee for the following inclusions.

Professional lessons, available for basketball, volleyball, tennis, squash, racquetball, and handball, can be an additional fee to budget for.

Social and dining events, commonly held throughout the year, can have an additional fee to budget for.

The Missouri Athletic Club follows a strict dress code and cell phone policy at both clubhouse locations.

In 1988, the Club’s membership voted overwhelmingly to admit female members. Before that, membership had been restricted only to men.

The Clubs Within the Club (CWC) offers members the opportunity to socialize, travel and improve in sports, hobbies and other specific interest areas.
