The Oakmont Country Club is one of the oldest private clubs in the United States.

Located in the Allegheny River Valley near the northeast suburbs of Oakmont and Plum in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the club dates back to over a century ago and boasts of having a renowned world-class golf course that has consistently ranked alongside Pebble Beach and Augusta.

This club was founded by designer Henry Clay Fownes in 1903. The club has hosted two U.S. Women’s Opens, three PGA Championships, five U.S. Amateurs and eight U.S. Opens.

How much does an Oakmont Country Club membership cost?

The Oakmont Country Club is said to be one of the most exclusive golf clubs in the United States.  For that reason, it can be very hard to gain access, even if you know the right people as ESPN reported that 35 percent of the members of the club have a single digit handicap.  As with most exclusive clubs, you will need current members in good standing to sponsor you and multiple personal references, preferably from people with great success.  The initiation fee, according to that same ESPN article, is said to be $75,000 and the monthly dues are in the mid $xxx range.  Beverage and food minimums are unknown at this time.

What is going to be included?

Guest fees for guests of members is said to be in the $225 range.

Tips to know

Even if you’re not a member, there are ways to play, according to GolfVacationInsider.com.  Some of these methods, for example, include playing a charity golf outing or even trying your hand at a sweepstakes if any are active.
