A washer dryer combo unit does exactly what its name suggests:  it can wash and dry all inside the same unit.

How much does a washer dryer combo cost?

Depending on the size, capacity, brand and condition the average cost of a new washer dryer combo is going to range anywhere from as little as $800 to as much as $1,800.  Generally, the larger the unit is and the more features it has, the higher the price is going to be.  For example, LG has a washer/dryer combination with the largest capacity, the greatest number of cycles and many features other brands don’t offer.  This particular model tends to be closer to $1,800, whereas a basic, smaller unit with fewer features and cycles can cost less than $1,000.

At Best Buy, for instance, the highly rated models range anywhere from $900 to more than $1,700.

Home Depot, at the time of this writing, had 16 options available on its official website, with prices ranging from as little as $880 to $1,700.

The highest rated combinations on Amazon.com retail for $995 to $1,800.

A portable mini washer dryer combination, often designed for an RV, can be much cheaper, often retailing for $90 to $300.

For example, at Walmart, a nine-pound mini portable washer and dryer retail for $100.

BrandAverage Price (new)
Deco$880 to $1,100
Equator$1,000 to $1,800
Haier$1,000 to $1,200
LG Electronics$1,400 to $1,800

Washer dryer combo overview

Most machines will be 27 to 35 inches wide and can either hook up to your washing machine hookup or if it’s a portable unit, then the hose can plug directly into a sink.

Capacities range from 1.6 to 4.3 cubic feet, with the average less than two cubic feet, making it one-third the size of a traditional washing drum.  LG, at the moment, is the only manufacturer that has a full-size combo.

Almost all washer/dryer combinations will have a front loading design, allowing for easier access.

Many washer dryer-all-in-one combinations are ventless and portable, making them ideal for smaller spaces such as an apartment, RV or an area with a tighter-than-average space.  But those designed for household use will look no different than the traditional front load washer or dryer.

Compared to traditional washer and dryers, these combos often have the same features, including digital controls, childproof locks, various washing/drying cycles, steam technology and low noise operations.

What are the extra costs?

If purchasing online or from a local retailer, delivery and/or installation fees may apply.  This will depend on the store’s policy, but in some cases, they may waive this fee if you spend a certain amount.  Even if the delivery is free, most retailers will want you to purchase new hose connectors, adding $15 to $25 to the total estimate.

While optional, some users opt to purchase a pedestal that the washer and dryer can sit on.  This drawer can be used to store detergent or raise the unit to a comfortable height.  A pedestal can cost an additional $100 to $300, depending on the brand.

How can I save money?

Like any appliance, consider either purchase a gently used unit online or even look for a refurbished appliance retailer in your area.
