How much does an Argentine Dogo cost?

On average, a pure-bred Dogo Argentino puppy can cost anywhere from $500 for a non purebred to more than $3,500+ for an AKC purebred.  The costs will greatly depend on the breeder, the age, quality, its history and geographical location.

PuppyFind.com, a popular online dog classified website, had close to 100 active listings at the time of this writing, with prices ranging from $500 to more than $3,500.

The official AKC marketplace has a few kennel listings on its website, with most breeders asking anywhere from $2,000 to $3,500.  The AKC breeders would include BAER testing and genetic testing.

What is going to be included in the adoption fee?

A reputable breeder, at a minimum, should include registration paperwork, up-to-date vaccinations, a health checkup and a health guarantee.  Some breeders may also include pedigree paperwork, spaying/neutering, a small sample starter kit and/or a microchip.

What are the extra costs?

Due to their relatively larger size, the average Argentine Dogo can eat close to $30+ of dog food per month.

Other recurring costs, as with any dog, should include routine/surprise veterinary checks, deworming and medication.  A healthy dog can easily cost $600+ per year to maintain.

Spaying or neutering this dog is an essential expense at the time of adoption if your breeder doesn’t include it.

Shipping a dog via an airline can cost upwards of $150 to $350 if you were to buy from a breeder out of town.  Due to the rarity of this breed, there is a good chance you may have to pay for the shipping fees.

Because this dog will need intense socialization in its early years, as with most dogs, obedience classes are highly recommended.  Beginner classes can cost $125 to $200+

Because of the dog’s coat, it is recommended that you get it groomed at least every two months.  This can cost up to $75 each time if you were to hire a professional groomer; however, there are also tools that you can purchase to do this job yourself.  While these tools may be more expensive up front, doing the grooming yourself will save you a lot of money throughout the life of the dog.

Depending on the city you live in, registration paperwork needs to be budgeted for as well.

Tips to know:

The Argentine Dogo measures 24.5 to 28 inches tall, with females slightly shorter on average.  The average weight, again, depending on the gender, ranges from 80 to 100 pounds.

The head of the Argentine Dogo is powerful with a broad skull and a powerful, slightly domed muzzle that is somewhat above the nose stop when viewed in profile.  Their body length is a bit longer than tall, and the ears can be either cut or naturally fall close to the skull.

The Argentine Dogo a short and dense outer coat, with a glossy sheen.  The hair is rather stiff, coarse and of uniform length to the touch.  A field-conditioned coat or working scars should not be faulted.  They are completely white in color.

On average, this can live 10 to 18 years.

Their short, plain and smooth coat should be completely white; however, a dark patch close to the eye is allowed as long as it does not cover over 10 percent of the head.

The Argentine Dogo should spend lots of time with its family.  Chaining the dog out in the yard and giving little or no attention is not only cruel, but it can also lead to an aggressive and destructive behavior.  This breed is not recommended for apartment living.

They respond well to positive and balanced obedience training and will make excellent companions for the right families.  Their need for serious mental and physical stimulation must be always be kept firmly in mind.

This breed is not recommended for first-time dog owners because its known to be extremely dominant.

The Argentine Dogo is a pack hunting dog, showing power and athleticism.  The base stock of this breed was composed of 10 different breeds, with the Old Cordoba Fighting Dog (now extinct) being the basis and then cross-bred with Mastiffs, Dogue De Bordeaux, Bulldogs and Bull Terriers, Harlequin Great Dane, Boxer, English Pointer, Pyrenean Mastiff, Old English Bulldog, and Irish Wolfhound.

It was bred for the pursuit of big game, such as the puma and wild boar, and possesses the intelligence, strength, and quick reaction of a serious athlete.

How can I save money?

Highly consider checking out a local shelter or rescue group for your next puppy or adult-sized dog.  While you may not find this particular breed, you could find a dog that closely resembles it.  Adopting is a great way to save hundreds of dollars and help an organization in need.

How Much Does an American Bully Cost?

Most people confuse the American bully with a pit bull because the breed descended from the pit bull line, but nonetheless, the American Bully is recognized as a separate breed altogether.

The American Bully was established in the USA in the 1990s, originating from Virginia and California.  The American Bully breed was developed with both the American Staffordshire terrier and the American Pit Bull Terrier; however, other non-bully and bully breeds were also included in certain breeding lines.

Currently, the American Bully is recognized by a number of registries including ABKC, DRA, EBKC, UCA and BBC.

By nature, this dog, particularly the puppies, are happy, amusing, good-natured and outgoing dogs.  They are quite gentle and loving towards their family.

How much does an American Bully cost?

In the United States, the cost of an American Bully puppy ranges anywhere from $450 for a non-purebred to more than $2,000 for a show-quality dog coming from a great bloodline, according to the research we found on various classified websites in the United States.  Ultimately, the cost will depend on the age, quality, pedigree, its history, inclusions with the purchase, breeder and geographical location.

According to one forum member on this GoPitBull.com forum thread, they noted that the average listing they saw was around $1,000; however, another forum member claimed that he paid $675.

At PuppyFind.com, a popular dog classified website, there were close to 400 active listings at the time of this publishing, with prices ranging from $450 to $1,500.

What is going to be included in the adoption fee?

A reputable breeder should include the registration papers, proof of vaccinations, health records and some sort of health guarantee.  If being shipped, a travel crate should be included as well.

What are the extra costs?

Ongoing costs, as with any dog, will include food and ongoing maintenance will be about $40 to $60 per month or much more if your dog were to come down with an illness.

Pet insurance, while optional, will cost $6 to $12 per month if you choose to purchase it.

American Bullies will need to be brushed on a weekly basis, and a full groom is recommended every six to eight weeks.  This will cost around $50 to $90 per session if you were to hire a professional.  However, there are also tools that you can purchase to do this job yourself.  While these tools may be more expensive up front, doing the grooming yourself will save you a lot of money throughout the dog’s life.

Obedience training is highly recommended.  Beginner classes can range anywhere from $100 to $250 per month.

Depending on the city you live in, you will need to register your dog.  In most cities, this is less than $25.

Tips to know:

The American Bully can grow up to 18 to 21 inches tall and can weigh anywhere from 66 to 110 pounds.  Physically, this dog is medium in length and has a broad skull, very pronounced cheek muscles, ears that are high set, and a distinct stop.

There are five styles recognized by the American Bully Kennel Club: a pocket, standard, XL, extreme or classic.

The coat of an American Bully is short, smooth and glossy and will feel stiff to the touch.  The coat comes in a variety of colors, including fawn, black, chocolate, red, tricolor or brindle variations.  Merle is the only color combination that is not acceptable for the American Bully.

American Bullies are loyal, intelligent, active and rather courageous, so they make excellent guard dogs, according to their owners.  In fact, most pet experts believe that the American bully is ideal for a family with children, particularly because they have a very pleasant temperament.

The lifespan of an American Bully is 8 to 13 years.

Experts recommend closely examining the parent’s bloodline and genetics if you’re looking for a show-quality dog.

This distinctive breed is not aggressive and will display a lot of tolerance towards the children.  However, they are highly protective of their owners and also possessive about the owner’s properties.  In addition, an American Bully will wrestle its enemy to death if it senses any threat to the family it belongs to.

The American Bully needs a firm, calm, confident and consistent owner who is capable of establishing his dominance within the pack order.  It is important that the dog becomes aware that humans in the household outrank him.

This breed can do very well in enclosed quarters; however, it is still important that they get enough exercise.

How can I save money?

While uncommon, it doesn’t hurt to check out a local shelter or rescue group to see if one is available for adoption.  Even if you’re unable to find one, you could find a puppy that closely resembles one.  Adopting will always be the best route as it helps an organization that needs your help and will help your pocketbook as well.  Why pay thousands to a breeder who does it for profits when you can help a poor dog off the streets?

How Much Does a Glass Curtain Wall Cost?

Glass curtain walls, used widely in commercial high rise construction, are typically non-structural and have the sole purpose of keeping the weather out, adding an aesthetic appeal to the building or home.

In particular, glass curtain walls provide a great advantage because the natural light can infiltrate deeper within the building.  Due to the characteristics, glass curtain walls also help reduce construction costs.

How much does a glass curtain wall cost per square foot?

On average, a glass curtain wall is going to cost between $25 to $140+ per square foot.  This cost will depend on the type of glass being used, the degree of transparency, the design, the thickness, and the company used.    The installation may often be influenced by the following factors: the glass (type, size, treatment, and availability), the complexity of design, design modifications, the scope of performance evaluation, the intricacy of manufacture, special elements, the process of approval, as well as logistics.  Replacing may cost upwards of $175 to $250 per square foot, for example, while installing for the first time can cost $25 to $75 per square foot.  This price is often the same for both residential and commerical applications.

Ambrico, the American Brick Company, noted the average glass curtain wall can cost close to $52 per square foot.

Glass curtain wall overview

There are various types of glass curtain wall systems, including the Stick System, Unit Panel System, Unit and Mullion System, and Column Cover, Spandrel System, and Point Loaded Structural Glazing System.  Glass curtain walls are thinner in size and are formed by the framework, which is usually made of aluminum.  The spaces, in between the frame, will be filled with glass, thin stone or metal panels.

Depending on the type and grade of glass  you choose, it could have the following qualities:

Insulation.  On average, about 25% of the energy from homes and buildings escapes through the windows.  This type of glass should have insulation aspects to prevent this from happening.

Security.  The type of glass that is used for a glass curtain wall should be made with safety and security in mind, meaning that the glass has a low risk of an accident by impact, fracture, shattering, or in a fire.   Security means that the glass is resistant to deliberate attacks and much harder to break than a traditional window.

Noise.  The noise from around a home or building can easily travel through a traditional pane of glass.  Certain types of glass, however, are designed to reflect that noise back to its source and block out excessive noise.

Cleaning.  There are new types of glass that have self-cleaning qualities to help reduce the cost of cleaning the windows on a regular basis.  This glass uses a special glaze combined with rainwater and sunlight to keep itself free from dirt and debris.

More expensive specialty types of glass could also have the following options:

What are the extra costs?

Glass curtain walls require maintenance, such as window washing, seal replacement, and glass insulation, to name a few.

Tips to know:

A glass curtain wall is often designed using lightweight materials and does not carry any dead load weight from the structure except for its own dead load weight.

Take into account future access to the glass curtain wall to ensure that the system is practical.  Make sure to consider this when the building is still being designed.

Curtain wall anchors are a critical element of any glass curtain wall installation and must be designed appropriately.

For successful assemblies, the design team must have a complete understanding of the design and construction phases that merely comprise a tiny portion of the lifespan of the wall.  Other important factors to consider include access, serviceability, as well as repair and maintenance.

Curtain wall systems play a vital role in the efficient consumption of energy by reducing unnecessary glare, leveling cooling loads and thermal comfort.

How can I save money?

Consider internal glazing for curtain wall assemblies as this usually lessens glass replacement costs since there is no required exterior swing stage access.  The process requires installing glass from the interior of the building.

Flatter curtain walling systems generally cost less than other types.

Take advantage of repetitive components such as corner conditions, faceting, and raked cutting and consider these for extra-over expenses to the entire curtain walling cost.

Avoid future costly problems by addressing curtain wall issues during the designing stage.

How Much Does an Akhal Teke Horse Cost?

The Akhal Teke, a horse from Turkmen, is often found in the southern region of the country of Turkmenistan.

Today, the Akhal-Teke is used for dressage mounts, show jumping, and long distance racing.

How much does an Akhal Teke horse cost?

On average, the Akhal Teke can range from as little as $5,000 to as much as $35,000 or more for a purebred.  The costs will depend on the age, sex, color, history, size, health, quality, inclusions with the adoption, the breeder and geographical location.

EquineNow.com, an online horse classified website, for example, has listings that average about $4,500 to $15,000.  At the time of this publishing, there were close to 40 active listings.

Members on this HorseForum.com forum thread claimed that this particular breed could cost anywhere from $5,000 to as much as $35,000.

TekeHorse.com states the price of an Akhal Teke will vary wildly, but they offer 12 rules to keep in mind to help navigate the current market.  This includes the sex, colors, chrome coat, typicality, prizes, size, training, health, movement, jumping ability, speed and age.

Akhal Teke horse overview

The Akhal Teke is Turkmenistan’s national emblem and is considered to be among the oldest surviving horse breeds worldwide.  This horse breed is an ancient breed known as a descendant of one of the four horse types which crossed the Bering Strait from America in the prehistoric times.

Akhal-Teke horses have small thin heads, large eyes, and long ears.  They have a short tail and a short, silky mane while some with no mane at all.

The average height of the Akhal Teke is 15-15.1 hands, and their small hooves are unusually quite hard and, as a result, rarely shed.

The Akhal Teke horse can come in a broad range of colors, including bay, chestnut, palomino, black, gray, cremello and perlino.  However, the most stunning ones are considered to be those with a golden buckskin color or palomino color, with a unique metallic sheen which gives it the look of being forged from iridescent gold.

What are the extra costs?

You will need to consider training a young Akhal Teke as they are prone to being kickers, mouthy, not tying or leading, and they are neither halter-broken nor trained to get into a trailer.  A good quality trainer can cost you about $1,000 a month.

Also, consider the trailering fees and cost of acquiring stable equipment.  It will also cost you about $200 to $500 a month to board the horse in a pipe corral stall with shelter.

Other additional costs include feed supplements and grain ($100 to $200 a month), regular shoeing/trimming ($15 to $90), vaccinations (around $150 per year), and dental treatments every 6 to 12 months of about $75.

Getting the front shoes of this horse can cost $80 and $100 for all four shoes.

Riding lessons can cost about $80 or so per lesson.  Floating (getting their teeth done) is usually done once every year when the horse is over four or five years and can cost you about $150 depending on the tranquilizers used on your horse.

If you are going to enter this horse into shows or other events, extra training will be required.  You will also have to pay an entrance fee for the horse to participate in these events; if you win, however, you could earn prize money or other prizes.

Do not forget about all of the essentials of horseback riding, such as saddles and other riding gear.  This equipment can be found a little cheaper if you buy used, but it will be an extra cost either way.

Shipping will often be the responsibility of the buyer, and the costs will greatly depend on the distance being traveled.

Tips to know

In appearance, the Akhal Teke horse is same as its descendant, the Persian Arab, although in size it is more comparable to the English thoroughbred, another of its descendants.

A key to the Akhal Teke’s stamina is based on its diet, which is high in protein but low in bulk, and frequently includes eggs and butter mixed with barley.

The Akhal Teke is native to arid, barren environments.

The speed, elasticity, and grace of this horse makes it a coveted racer, dressage mount, and show jumper.  Though they are spirited in temperament, the Akhal-Tekes are by all accounts loyal and gentle to their owners, yet somehow aloof with strangers.

How can I save money?

Look into purchasing a horse that has been previously owned.  This often means that the horse will most likely already be trained and vaccinated as long as it comes from a reputable breeder.  It may take you a little time to gain its trust and establish yourself as its new master, but the savings will be well worth the extra work and effort.  This will also help with the equipment cost since, if a person is getting rid of a horse, they are probably getting rid of all the riding equipment and transportation necessities as well.

How Much Does a Passport Cost at the Post Office?

Anyone in need of a passport can obtain an application form from their local post office as most locations provide application forms, take passport photos, and accept the completed application packets.  However, before going to your local post office, you may have to visit the main post offices in your city rather than one of the smaller ones.  You can use this USPS.com official search to see which locations in your area offer passport services.

How much does a passport cost at the post office?

The application fees at the local post office for first-time passport applications will be $25 for the acceptance fee and another $15 if you need the photo.  This won’t include the actual cost of the passport when applying, which, as of 2017, is about $135 for the execution fee and passport book.

Most people only go to the post office when they need to apply for the first time since renewals can easily be done via the mail.

Passport at the post office

At the post office, you will need to bring an unsigned Form DS-11 Application for U.S. Passport, a proof of identity document that’s photocopied on both sides, a proof of U.S. citizenship document that’s photocopied on both sides and a form of payment.  You will also need a passport photo taken, which can be done either at the post office if they offer it or at a third-party location.  You can pay the passport fee with a check, money order, bank draft, or cashier’s check made payable to the U.S. Department of State.  The acceptance fee can be paid in cash or by credit or debit card, check or money order made payable to the U.S. Postal Service.

What are the extra costs?

The State Department fees, as stated by the USPS, won’t include the State Department fees.  You can use this calculator to calculate your exact fees.

Passport photos, as mentioned, at certain branches cost about $15.  However, you may be able to find another retailer that offers photos for a lower price.

If you need your passport within three weeks, you can pay an expedited processing fee for an additional $60 per application, plus another $15.45 for return delivery postage.  If you are leaving in less than 30 days, then you will need to contact the Department of State passport agency by either making an appointment online or call 1-877-487-2778.

Tips to know

The standard processing time at most post offices will be about six to eight weeks, according to those who applied for one.  This time limit can increase if it’s during peak period times of year such as the beginning of the year or during the summer.

Passports issued to adults expire in 10 years while passports issued to minors are valid for five years from the date of issue unless it is limited by the Secretary of State.

Passport applications must be done in person if you are a first-time applicant.  If you are planning a trip, you should apply for your passport at least two months in advance to make sure you get it on time even if problems arise.

It is best for both parents to be present in the post office to sign for any child under the age of 16.  This is to prevent parental kidnapping.  Documentation from the missing parent is required in case both cannot go to the post office.

Always call first before going to a post office, even if you know they accept them.  You may find that some locations will require you set up an appointment before they process your application.

How can I save money?

You can submit the passport application by mail if you are not a first-time applicant and are simply renewing to avoid paying an extra $25 processing fee.

If you want to save a trip, consider getting your passport photo taken at the post office.  While some retailers may have a cheaper option, a post office can assure you the photo is approved when sending in.

The post office isn’t the only authorized facility that can issue passports.  The courthouse, city clerk office, passport office and other related facilities can offer the service as well.  In some cases, these locations could be closer and the fees could be less as well.  Use the official passport acceptance facility search page to see which locations are closest to your home.

How much does a Publix wedding cake cost?

The cost of a Publix wedding cake will depend on the size, the customization and the type of cake you purchase.  From what we researched, a plain cake for the average wedding can cost $200 to $400, but as you add decorations and additional tiers, the costs can increase.  However, most couples, even after they decorate their wedding cake, reported paying $275 to $450.

With so many options, we were able to find an answer via Publix.  Here’s what they said:

Type of Wedding CakePrice Quoted
3-tier cake (sizes 8" and 6" round layers) with a buttercream layer that serves 15 to 20 guests- $105 + additional $7 for filling
- Cake toppers are additional
Creme cake+ 10% per tier
Carrot cake+ 20% per tier

NOTE:  The quote above should be used as an estimate only.  To budget, the top number should be budgeted for every 20 guests attending your wedding.  If 100 guests were attending, then it would be safe to multiply the total by five.

According to one member on this WeddingWire.com forum thread, a bride said she paid $350 for a wedding cake from Publix that served more than 250 guests.

On this CakeCentral.com forum thread, a member was quoted $440 for a three-tiered cake, which had 8, 10 and 12-inch layers and used fondant.  On the other hand, the same sized cake with buttercream frosting was quoted for $295.

TheKitchn.com says the average Publix wedding cake for about 100 guests will be close to $400.

There are additional charges for cream cheese and fudge icings, fruit and cannoli fillings, whipped toppings, German Chocolate cakes, black forest cakes, and carrot cakes.

A cake topper, if chosen, will be an additional cost to consider.

If your cake needs a stand or acrylic legs used to build the cake tiers, the Publix bakery will require a deposit for these items.  However, this deposit is returned when all of the pieces used are returned in good condition.

Tips to know

Publix recommends placing your order no earlier than two months prior to your event to ensure the bakery team is given sufficient time.  No deposit is necessary as the cake will be paid for in person.

How can I save money?

Plain cakes will always be the cheapest option, and if you want to save the most money, highly consider decorating the cake on your own to save at least $50 to $100.
