Those who want to book a band for their wedding, birthday party or retirement party are going to find that the prices are going to be dependent on the location, the band playing, the type of music, the number of people and how long you need the bank for.

How much does a live band cost?

On average, a smaller local band that has four to six people will charge anywhere from $500 to as much as $16,000 for a local four-hour gig; however, the average band will charge about $1,500 to $2,500 for a five-hour set.  A band that is more popular is going to command a higher price tag, and the more members the band has, the higher the price will be.

Jazz and acoustic bands tend to charge $700 to $1,600, while the exclusive party and dance bands can charge more than $10,000.

If the band charges per hour instead of per event, the hourly rates will most likely fall between $300 and $2,000.  Most bands are going to require a minimum number of hours, though, which is usually around four hours.

Bands in larger cities, such as New York City or Chicago, are going to charge anywhere from $1,500 to $25,000 for a four to six-hour set.

According to PrettyPolly.com, nationwide acts can charge anywhere from $15,000 to $250,000 for an act.  For example, Jason Mraz will charge $100,000 or more for a gig, and the Foo Fighters will charge as much as $350,000 for a gig.  A rock band such as Hinder will charge $40,000.

Members on Weddingbee.com said they received quotes from as little as $1,200 to more than $16,000.

Bands prefer to book their gigs in “block” times, usually four hours at a time.  While they won’t play the full four hours, plan at least 30 to 45 minutes for a break.  Bands will try to work these breaks around special times such as a best man speech or cake cutting.  Most live bands will require a small break every hour.

Many special event bands will provide a basic lighting system that’s able to illuminate the stage.   They will also be responsible for setting up and taking down the stage equipment. They won’t include decorations or a backdrop.

Most bands should include all the equipment necessary to perform, but in some cases, as mentioned below, they may need a microphone or a loud speaker.

What are the extra costs?

Most bands may require food during the party.  Be sure to add plates for the band members that are going to attend.  Also keep in mind that some bands will have tech personnel, so be sure to include them as well.  This will depend on the size of the band.

Bands that have to travel more than 100 miles will more than likely stay at a local hotel.  This is going to be an added expense that isn’t included in the quote.

If you keep the band over the allotted time, you will be charged an overtime fee.  This will generally be pointed out in the contract you sign in the beginning.

Some bands are going to require that you supply them with the sound equipment such as the speakers and microphones.  If you don’t have this equipment available for the party, you may have to rent it from a local music store.  Special lighting may have to be provided as well.

A sound guy may be required if the band doesn’t provide one.

Most bands are going to be more than happy to come down in price if you haggle with them.  Keep in mind that good bands are going to be booked well ahead of time.  To play it safe, book your band at least six to 12 months in advance.

ABC News says consider hiring a disc jockey instead of a live band to save more than $1,000.  Bands will always be much more than a DJ.

How much do bananas cost?

At your local grocery store, bananas are going to cost anywhere from $0.30 to $1 per pound.  A local farmer’s market may charge less than your local franchise grocery store such as Walmart of Safeway.

Wholesale clubs, such as Costco, will sell pre-packaged bananas that come in two or three-pound bags.  These bags can cost anywhere from $1.50 to $3.

Exotic bananas such as the red and purple ones can cost $1 and $3 per pound.

As an example, a farmer’s market in the Asian markets of San Francisco, California, generally sells their bananas for $0.30 to $0.60 per pound.

If you wish to cut down on the amount of food you put in your garbage, buying a garbage disposal can help.  Instead of having to scrape extra food into the trash, which can attract bugs and cause a foul odor, you can scrape it into your sink and dispose of it down the drain.

How much does a garbage disposal cost?

A garbage disposal, without installation, can cost $100 to $300.  When the installation is factored in, you will want to add another $100 to $200 to the price.  The price will depend mostly on the size of the motor and the type.  Most motors will be 1/3, 1/2, 3/4 or one horsepower.  The larger the motor, the more expensive the disposal will be.  Typically, a garbage disposal with a 1/3 hp motor will cost around $50 to $100.  A disposal that is slightly more powerful with a 3/4 hp motor will cost around $130 to $300.  Also, an aluminum disposal, which is considered to more economical, can cost $70 to $150, while a stainless steel version, which won’t dull, can cost $175 to $300.

The Waste King L-2600 with a 1/2 horsepower motor, for example, will cost $80 to $160.  The Waste King also has the L-8000, which has a one horsepower motor can cost anywhere from $125 to $300.

The highly rated InSinkErator Evolution has a 3/4 horsepower food waste disposer and can cost anywhere from $180 to $325.

Wiring

Newer disposals may require a new wiring setup, and if you don’t have the wiring in place, it could cost an additional $100 to $150 to have a new ground outlet installed.  While the ground outlet will be cheap and easy to install, you’re paying mostly for the electrician’s time.  Other accessories may be needed such as adding a dishwasher drain connector or a baffle to protect your silverware.

Scrubs are commonly found in a healthcare field setting as most employers require you to purchase them.

How much do scrubs cost?

Scrub tops come in a variety of designs, colors, and patterns and will typically cost $6 to $45 per top.   The costs, in the end, will depend on the brand, the quality and the retailer you purchase from.  A cheaper set may be found at Walmart, while a higher quality top will be found at a local and/or online uniform supply store, for example.

Pants, just like the tops, are sold in many colors to match the top.  Scrub pants will cost about $10 to $30 per piece and can be made using a drawstring or an elastic waist.  Pants may or may not have pockets.  For a complete set, it’s best to budget $10 to $40 per outfit.  We gathered information from the top uniform retailers and included their scrub cost average in the table below.

At Walmart, for example, their scrub tops can cost $5 to $15, while the pants can cost $10 to $18.

Many of the answers on Quora said they would pay anywhere from $20 to $30 per piece, but if the set was comfortable, they wouldn’t have a problem spending more.

How Much Does It Cost to Build a Balcony?

The cost to build a balcony depends on the size, design, type of railings you use and the type of materials you are going to use to build the balcony.  It’s hard to pinpoint an exact price because there are so many factors, but at the lower end, plan on spending about $17 per square foot for a finished wood balcony with simple wood railings to as much as $59 per square foot for a composite wood balcony with glass railings.  This quote should include the engineering and full build out. While the price may seem high, remember a balcony can often increase your home’s value, allowing you to recoup the costs when you sell in the future.

A builder on Angie’s List said one of the biggest cost drivers will be whether the wall will have to be strengthened to carry the load or if the existing rim joists are able to carry the deck.

modernize.com tells us it’s hard to estimate a realistic price because you need to factor in the size, cost of local labor and the materials.  As a safe bet, they recommend budgeting $15 to $35 per square foot.

A smaller Juliette balcony may cost less than $500 since it’s extremely simple to install.

As for an interior balcony, the costs tend to be within the $2,000 to $10,000 range.  Like an outdoor balcony, the costs will depend on the material, the location and construction company you choose.

Balconies will often be made from wood, cement, a wood composite or vinyl.  While concrete can be structurally sound and holds up to the outdoor weather, it doesn’t match everyone’s appeal to a relaxing area.  Wood is a classic building material, but unlike concrete, it will have to be resealed every few years to make sure it holds up.  A wood composite will be slightly similar to wood; however, it won’t require as much maintenance.  Lastly, vinyl tends to be the cheapest option and is the cheapest option to install.

As mentioned in the materials, if you choose wood, you will need to reseal the balcony at least once to twice a year, depending on your climate.  Also, vinyl, over time, may start to discolor, especially if it isn’t scrubbed down often and is exposed to the sun.

If the balcony is going to be added to a structure on the outside, a permit will be necessary to abide by local laws.  Permits can start at $100 and go up from there depending on the city and state.

If building a balcony to an existing home, an access point will need to be created.  This means framing a new door and purchasing the new hardware.  The frame should cost about $1,000 and the new door will depend on your choice and can range anywhere from a few hundred to a few thousand.  French doors, for example, can cost close to $5,000.

If choosing a material that can be painted, this may or may not be included in the cost.

Adding a pergola over the balcony can be an additional cost.

Enclosing a balcony can cost anywhere from $5,000 to $10,000, depending on the type of enclosure, the materials being used and if windows will be involved.

How Much Does the ACTH Stimulation Test Cost?

The ACTH stimulation test is designed to determine whether the cortisol level of the body is beyond its normal limits.  They may also recommend it if they suspect your adrenal glands aren’t functioning the way they should be.  The possible conditions that may cause this include Addison’s disease, adrenal insufficiency, Cushing’s disease and pituitary gland dysfunction.

This test is usually ordered for those who demonstrate signs of abnormal cortisol levels such as obesity, muscle weakness, acne, hypertension, and low potassium levels.  The said test can also be administered to dogs to detect Cushing’s disease.

How much does an ACTH stimulation test cost?

An ACTH stimulation test is performed at hospitals, laboratories, or at a doctor’s clinic, and it is done by a laboratory technician, nurse, or doctor. The cost of the test is between $150 to $250 without health insurance.

If you have health insurance, consult with the insurance company to see what is covered and what you will have to pay.

ACTH stimulation test overview

The pituitary gland is a small gland located at the base of your brain and is responsible for producing types of hormones, including adrenocorticotropic hormone, known as ACTH.  ACTH will stimulate the adrenal glands and will release two hormones:  cortisol and adrenaline, the hormones responsible for helping you respond to stress and supporting your immune system.

Abnormal rates may mean you have an increased chance of having Addison’s disease, hypopituitarism or acute adrenal crisis.  Cortisol levels afterward should be higher than 18 mcg/dl, depending on the dosage.  These results will vary among laboratories.

Once the results are ready, the doctor will read the results and discuss what is best for your health.

If the test shows an abnormal cortisol level, you may need to purchase medicine or undergo additional medical procedures and/or testing.  Then, there is the chance you will have to take the test again to see how your body responded to the treatment.

What are the extra costs?

A 20-gallon tank is recommended; however, the larger it is, the better it will be for your snake.  Most experts recommend a 40-gallon tank at a minimum.  A good tank should cost you about $100 to $200, but it can be much more than this, especially if you wish to customize it.

While optional, a tank stand may be necessary if you don’t have a table or desk to set it on.  Depending on the stand you want, this can be as little as $25 to more than $100.

A hiding area within the tank is highly ideal to give it a place to rest.  Old tissue boxes can work, but if you want specially designed hiding boxes, this can cost about $10 to $20.

A substrate will be needed and can run anywhere from as little as nothing for a newspaper to as much as $5 to $10 per bag of Aspen shavings for a snake bedding at your local pet store.

Your snake will need a heat source, and most owners prefer an under tank heater.  This type of heater can cost $20 to $50.  Additionally, you can purchase either a heat lamp or dome, and these can cost $10 to $35.  A thermometer and hygrometer are also highly recommended so you’re able to keep control of the temperature and humidity levels.  Both of these should cost less than $10 or less.  It’s important to keep the temperature between 78 to 95 degrees Fahrenheit and a 40 to 60 percent humidity level.

Depending on how often your snake eats, it will cost about $1 to $3 per large mouse to feed your snake.  If you purchase frozen and in bulk, it can lower the prices a pinch.  If you have a larger adult snake, plan on feeding at least twice per week, while younger snakes will only need to eat once per week.

With all of the supplies factored in, it can cost about $350 to $500, depending on the specific items you purchase.  Other costs to think about include surprise vet bills.

The average ball python reaches up to 60 inches in length.  The ball python’s growth rate slows down after its first three years.  Most species will reach sexual maturity between two to three years old.

Be sure to research the snake’s past.  Snakes that are caught in the wild don’t do well in captivity, so it’s always best to buy a snake that has been bred by a professional breeder.

Take a look at Craigslist and see if any owners are looking to get rid of their pet.  This is a great way to get the supplies and the snake at the same time.  However, before you consider doing this, make sure you know why the seller is getting rid of their snake.  A snake that isn’t properly taken care of can be aggressive and may strike wildly while handling it.  When choosing one, look for a well-rounded body, clean eyes and signs of no respiratory problems such as wheezing.  A healthy python will grip your hand tightly when handled.

Is acrylic plastic?  Yes, it’s a clear plastic that resembles glass, but it will have properties which are superior to glass.  Another question we often hear is:  “is plexiglass acrylic?”  The simple answer is yes.  Plexiglass is a brand of acrylic.

How strong is acrylic?  Typically, a 12.5mm panel can handle up to three times the impact of a double thickness window.

Compared to other plastics, polycarbonate and PET are the strongest; however, acrylic comes in a close third.  It’s known to be impact resistant, stronger, is easily formed and it won’t shatter.

Don’t use a glass cleaning spray when cleaning these sheets since this cleaner often has ammonia, a chemical that can scratch or haze the surface.  Look for special cleaner products designed for this kind of sheet.

Deep scratches can be removed from the sheet by using sandpaper and a super duty rubbing compound.

The cost of acrylic paint will depend on the quantity, the amount of paint in a set, the brand, colors and retailer you purchase it from.  Two to eight-ounce tubes will cost anywhere from $1 to $6.  At Michael’s Craft Stores, for example, a smaller two-ounce tube can retail for about $1.  At Walmart, eight-ounce bottles retail for $4 to $14.

A set of 6 to 24 colors of paint, which may contain 12ml to 90ml of paint per tube in the set, will cost $10 to $70.  This highly popular 48-piece set on Amazon.com, for instance, retails for about $35.

When purchasing a paint, pay close attention to the “series” number.  The higher this number is, the more expensive the paint will be.  This number will refer to the pigments within the paint that can be harder to obtain.  A paint with synthetic pigments can have a lower series number, while a higher number, such as six or seven, will be derived from cadmium.

The ATSM rating on the jar will refer to the lightfastness standards.  The higher the number, the less likely the paint will fade when exposed at night.  ATSM I will be an excellent rating, while ATSM III won’t be as good and will be a lot more likely to fade over time.

Heavy body acrylics can be found on the market in either a tube or jar.  These paints will have a pastier-like consistency, but it will still flatten out when applied to a palette.

These paints can be applied to fabrics; however, many find the paint tends to get stiff as you add layers.  To make sure the paint works with fabric, it’s recommended you get a textile-based paint.

Is acrylic paint toxic?  As long as the paint is used for painting purposes, it isn’t considered toxic because it’s water based.  Pay close attention to the label as you will find some toxic ingredients such as chromium, lead, cobalt and cadmium.  If ingested, this could cause harm.

Is acrylic paint waterproof?  Since it is water-soluble, it will become water-resistant when its dry.  You will be able to gently wash with soap and water.

Can you use acrylic paint on the skin?  Many acrylic paints will contain pigments which are toxic for your skin, so it’s important to use material designed for the skin only.  Even if it’s deemed “non-toxic,” it doesn’t mean it will be.

Can you use acrylic paint on wood?  You can almost paint anything with this paint, and wood is no exception.

Does acrylic paint work on glass?  It will work; however, it won’t stay on permanently since glass is a non-porous surface.  When painting on glass, be sure to read the instructions so you can get the right consistency.
