How Much Does a Personal Driver Cost?

A personal driver, also known as a chauffeur, is a person that drives vehicles to a particular destination.  This type of driver is either employed by a service or is self-employed.

While most services charge by the hour, businesses or even individuals can hire a chauffeur on a permanent basis.

The cost of a personal driver is going to depend on the geographical location, the service, the driver and how long the driver is needed.

How much does a personal driver cost?

For a personal driver that will drive your car, the rates can range anywhere from $22 to $66 per hour.  Most chauffeur services are going to have a two to three-hour minimum.  For example, a three-hour ride round trip could cost anywhere from $66 to $200.

If you need the car and the driver, the costs can be between $45 and $85 per hour, depending on the size of the car,

DrivenDFW, a company we found online, for example, charges $35 per hour as per its website.

Another service, Private Driver LA, charges $40 per hour and they will require a three-hour minimum as well.

Most private drivers will ask for a four-hour window.  Once an appointment is made, the driver will offer a pickup date and time.  If it is a round trip, the driver can wait or come back later for a pickup.  Some companies will provide their own car, but if you do research online, what you may find is that some will use your car instead.

What are the extra costs?

While optional, most drivers will expect a tip.  These tips can be anywhere from 10 to 20% of the total bill.

Last minute appointments that are made outside of their recommended time can result in a premium fee.

If the driver has to wait for a pickup, they will charge during this time even though they are not driving.

Drivers that have to stay overnight will need to have room and board paid for.  This is usually the case if they were to drive your car and you needed to have them drive to a location a few hours away.

How can I save money?

Senior citizens, military and students commonly get discounts.  Check with the service to see if any discounts are available.

Pre-ordered rides that are made well in advance can result in a discount.

If needing a personal driver because of a health issue, highly consider using a taxi service or Uber.  These cars can show up at your door within minutes and can be the same price, if not cheaper in some areas.

Some companies have a VIP club that gives discounts to those that purchase on a regular basis.

How Much Does a Persian Cat Cost?

A Persian cat is a long haired cat that is known for its round and flat fronted face.  These cats have an extremely thick coat compared to other cats as well as shorter legs.  Known to carry a wide variety of coat colors, these cats are favored by many breeders worldwide, making them one of the most popular breeds in the United States.

The cost of a Persian cat depends on the breeder, the rarity of the coat color, its facial structure, the gender, the quality of the cat, age, breeder and geographical location.

How much does a Persian kitten cost?

On average, a Persian kitten can cost anywhere from $300 to as much as $1,500.  A Persian doll face, a popular “type” some search for, can cost $500 to $850, for instance.  A short haired, on the other hand, can be in the same price range.  The ultra-rare chinchilla Persian kittens can cost $700+

Show quality cats are going to be more toward the higher end, while cats with defects or a non-champion bloodline will be near the lower end.  Also, cats with a rare color or pattern can fetch a higher price tag as well.

While these types of cats can be found at local shelters, they will usually be older. If found at a local shelter, the placement fees can range anywhere from as little as a small donation to less than $200.

Cat Breeds List says the average cost can be between $500 and $700.

PetHelpful.com says most breeders can start their prices at $800 for a healthy kitten.

Factors that affect the price:

The geographical location

According to The Persian Kittens, Persian cats will cost more on the east coast and in the midwest than they will in the south and west.  With anything you purchase in life, the geographical location will play a role.

Time of year

During the winter, most cats won’t be in heat, leading to fewer litters on the market.  This, of course, can create more demand, increasing the costs.

Registered?

A reputable breeder will always register their cats, but if they withhold this registration, it may mean the kitten has been altered.

Is there a guarantee?

A health guarantee will protect your investment upon adoption.  Even if one is included, it will vary from breeder to breeder.

Its health:

Since this breed is known to have genetic problems, a reputable breeder will test for these issues.  If any problems were to be found, this could affect the costs.

The colors:

As we explain later, a Persian can come as a solid color, bicolor, tabby, color point or parti-color.  Some colors will be popular with breeders, and depending on your market, the prices for certain colors will vary.

What is going to be included in the adoption fee?

Reputable breeders should include a health guarantee that lasts up to 90 days, and this is going to protect the person adopting from paying vet bills if the cat has any health problems.  This will allow them to either return the cat or have all the vet bills paid.  They should also include up-to-date vaccinations and a travel crate if being shipped.  Depending on the breeder, some may spay/neuter and include a microchip.  Be sure to ask the breeder about the inclusions as all breeders will have their own inclusions.

What are the extra costs?

If the cat has to be shipped through an airline, a shipping fee can start at $150 to $350.  This will depend on the airline and how far the cat has to be shipped.

Local registration may be required in your local city if needed.  Check with your city to inquire about the local law.

Startup supplies that you may need will include items such as a litter box, cat toys, food, litter, and medications such as a flea collar and heartworm treatments.  Don’t forget the recurring costs such as food, cat litter and routine/unexpected vet visits.  The average cat owner can spend $700 to $1,100 per year.

Frequent grooming is required since the coat is longer than most other cat breeds.  To keep the coat in top notch shape, experts recommend you take your feline into a groomer at least once every few months.  The average cat grooming session can cost about $55 to $95, depending on where you live.

Tips to know:

Its coat is known to be glossy, long, silky and can come in the following colors:  white, black, blue, cream, red and chocolate.  However, gray and beige will be the most common color you will see on the market.

Persian pet owners say this cat is known to be quiet, loyal and very affectionate, making for a great lap cat.

There are two popular types of Persians:  the flat face and the traditional.  Americans will be most familiar with the flat face variety, but the problem with type is that they are prone to nasal and eye drainage problems.  A traditional Persian will have a face that isn’t as flat and won’t cause as many drainage issues.  Generally, the flatter your cat’s face is, the more problems they may have.

These breeds tend to have a long thick coat and shorter legs, and due to their stature, they are prone to a lot of health problems such a sinus and breathing issues.

If healthy throughout its life, the lifespan can be anywhere from 13 to 16 years.

If you’re looking for a show quality Persian, consider going to a local CFA cat breeding show.  Here, you can mingle with other breeders to discuss their upcoming litters.

How can I save money?

Check with local breeders since this will allow you to save on the shipping fees.  It also gives you the chance to check the cat in person to see if you get along with it personality wise.

Older cats can commonly be found at shelters such as the Humane Society.  Check these shelters on a weekly basis to see if any Persian cats have come in for adoption.  Adopting an older cat can save you a lot of money and offer the cat a loving home.

How Much Does a Personal Chef Cost?

A personal chef is a chef who prepares meals for a family in the comfort of their own home.  This chef can either prepare the meals for the upcoming week or the chef can purchase and create the meals throughout the day.

Commonly done in the home kitchen, a chef will be responsible for gathering all the ingredients, serving the meal and helping with the cleanup process.

The cost of a personal chef is going to depend on the skills/demand of the chef, the geographical location, what kind of plan is needed, how many meals are needed and if any additional services are needed.

How much does a personal chef cost?

On average, most personal chefs are going to prepare meals ahead of time, and these meals will be frozen for the upcoming week, and you will simply have to reheat in the oven.  On average, a weekly frozen plan such as this would cost anywhere from $255 to $450 per week for a family of four.  This fee usually won’t include the groceries.

For a private dinner cooked directly in the kitchen for a few guests, the cost will fall between $150 to $350 for a party of four on average.  This option, unlike the first, will require the chef in your kitchen.  He or she will set the table, create the meal and almost turn your kitchen into a restaurant.  The price for a private party will depend on the number of people attending, the type of meal being cooked and the notoriety of the chef.  Plan on paying at least $20 to $30 per plate or close to $30 to $50 per hour.

If you’re talking a full-time chef who will reside on the premises almost full time, then the costs could be in the $45,000 to $85,000 per year range.  Since this will be considered a full-time employee, these costs will depend on the chef you’re hiring, where you live, what kind of work needs to be done and how much time they need to spend at your home.

Lucia’s Personal Chef Service in Miami, Florida, for instance, charges $425 for a weekly family of four plan that includes four servings.

We researched a few personal chefs throughout the United States and were able to gather some cost information listed in our table below:

Geographical LocationAverage Price
Atlanta, Georgia$330 for four dinners per week, plus groceries or $475 for six dinners per week, plus groceries
Chicago, IllinoisFive meals per week for $185, plus groceries
Cleveland, Ohio$315 for five dinners, plus cost of food.
Dallas, Texas$400 for five entrees with side dishes, plus price of food.
Denver, Colorado$425 for five entrees with side dishes, plus price of food.
Las Vegas, Nevada$350, plus groceries for 5 meals per week or $50 per hour for specialized menu
Los Angeles, California$300 for three meals per week, plus groceries. $65 per hour if you want specialized sit down dinner.
Tampa, Florida$250 for 3-course dinner in house.

Personal chef overview

Before a chef works with you, they will first consult with you before any services start.  This is your chance to ask questions as well as set up a meal plan.  The chef will get to know you and what your family likes and dislikes in terms of meals.  With information, a chef will be able to create a weekly meal plan and can set up a time to deliver the food and place the food in the freezer.  With these meals, you will just have to place them in the oven for a certain amount of time.

Upon setting up a meal plan, the chef will more than likely cook the food in his or her kitchen.  Once all the meals are prepped, they will be vacuum sealed and delivered to your door.  These meals will have to be either reheated in the microwave or oven.  If you choose to have the chef cook in your kitchen, they will do everything from grocery shopping to setting up the meals inside your home.  You simply have to show up to the kitchen table and eat.

What are the extra costs?

Groceries can be an additional fee on top of the chef charges, and the grocery fee will depend on the meal that is being prepared.  If you want to use ingredients from the chef’s pantry, the ingredients cost can be more.

If you want fresh meals that won’t have to be frozen, such as soups or salads, this can have a 10 to 30 percent surcharge.

Additional meals and side dishes will cost extra.  Also, meals that are not listed on their meal list can cost extra if they do not have a recipe.

A delivery fee can be extra if you want the chef to deliver to your home.  Even if the delivery fee is included in the price, many will knock a few dollars off if you pick it up at their kitchen.

Some chefs will be able to add more to the meals if you were to have more people coming.  On average, this can be another $10 to $20 per meal.

Tips to know

Angie’s List says you should always interview your personal chef ahead of time and learn about their experience, education, certifications and their cookings tyle.  It will be very important to choose a chef who can work with your dietary restrictions, likes, dislikes and meal planning goals.

Some chefs may require a monthly minimum if you plan on using their services.  This may either include a set amount of meals prepared during the month or a certain amount spent.

How can I save money?

Many chefs love a referral; if you refer them to their services, many will give a discount on your next meal.  Ask the chef to see what kind of discounts you can receive.

Setting an appointment in advance can lead to a 10 to 20% discount.

For families who don’t mind cooking, consider bypassing a chef and signing up for a service that delivers fresh ingredients to your home.  With these at-home kits, they send you the necessary ingredients and a recipe card explaining how the food is to be cooked.  Forbes, for example, broke down how these services work and which one may work best for your lifestyle.

How Much Does a Driver’s Permit Cost?

A driver’s permit, also known as a learner’s permit, is a restricted license that is issued by the state.  This license is handed out to those who have recently passed a driver’s education course.  With this permit, most states require that an adult over the age of 21 or a legal guardian rides with the driver whenever they are behind the wheel.  In the United States, most soon-to-be drivers can get their learner’s permits between the ages of 14 and 18, and the cost of a learner’s permit will depend on the state.

How much does a driver’s permit cost?

On average, a learner’s permit can cost anywhere from $0 to as much as $100.  This is going to depend on the state in which the driver acquires the license.  New York has the highest fees, while states such as Arkansas and Michigan offer it for free.  Refer to the table below to see what it may cost in your state; however, keep in mind these rates can change at any given time.

Driver’s permit overview

With a permit, the driver will be able to drive with an adult over the age of 21 or a legal guardian to complete the amount of hours necessary in order to graduate to the next level.  Once a legal age is reached and a sufficient amount of driving time is accomplished, the driver can graduate to a license that allows them to drive without anyone in the car.  Each states will vary with its laws and restrictions.  DMV.org breaks down the restrictions for each state.

In most states, students will have to drive for a certain amount of time, usually around 30 to 100 hours for at least six months.  After these requirements have met, students will then either take another course and/or fill out the appropriate paperwork, signed by the instructor, to verify your driving hours and graduate to a restricted driver’s license.

What are the extra costs?

The driver’s permit is the first step that must be taken in order to be eligible for a driver’s license.

States may have miscellaneous fees.  For example, in Maryland, the state will charge extra if you have never had a license in the past.

Some states will charge extra for each test that has to be re-taken.

While optional, some students tend to purchase additional books and materials to learn more about the classes if they have difficulty passing the first time.

Tips to know

The penalty for driving with a permit alone, without a licensed adult, can include fines and similar fees if the driver were found to be violating driving laws such as speeding.  The fines and penalties will depend on the state, the offense and the judge.

How can I save money?

Driver’s permits have prices that are set by the local state and as such they are non-negotiable.  Be sure to study for the test before taking it so that it does not have to be retaken.  Each time the test has to be retaken, an additional waiting period and fee will be applied.

How Much Do Henna Tattoos Cost?

A henna tattoo, known as Mehndi, is a type of body art that is applied to the skin using removable ink that is made from powdered henna leaves.   Henna is a plant that will be found in most Middle Eastern countries, growing up to 10 feet tall.  When the leaves are dried and crushed into a powder, the natural dying properties found within the plant can temporarily stain the skin.

Henna tattoos are a great alternative to permanent tattoos since it can offer the same body art a permanent tattoo offers but can be removed easily.  Also, henna tattoos offer you the freedom to change the design as often as he or she would like.  Just like permanent tattoos, you will still be able to choose a design that will be applied to the skin.

The price of the henna tattoo usually depends on the complication of the design, professional applying the tattoo and where you live.

How much do henna tattoos cost?

On average, a henna tattoo can cost anywhere from $20 to as much as $200 or more for a complex design.  Some artists will charge by the design while others will charge by the hour.  A small tattoo should cost $10 to $20, while a medium-sized tattoo should cost $25 to $50.  A larger tattoo that could take up your entire arm, for instance, could cost upwards of $150l.

If you want to hire a henna tattoo artist for an event, such as a bridal party or birthday occasion, then most will charge by the hour, ranging anywhere from $65 to $115 per hour.  According to ThumbTack, this price will all depend on the size of the event and the number of people being tattooed per hour.

An at-home kit can be purchased for $9 to $20 for those who want to attempt to do it at home.  These kits include all the necessary items needed in order to perform a simple tattoo.

Henna tattoo overview

Before the tattoo process begins, you will be able to choose your own design before the process starts.  These tattoos can range in size, anywhere from something small on the hand to as large as covering your entire leg.  Artists will often have books on hand filled with hundreds of designs, but if you want your own, you can simply show the artist the design you would like.  Depending on their skillset, they may or may not be able to work with it.   While henna is traditionally applied to the hands, feet and shins, artists will be able to place it anywhere you wish.  Most prefer getting it on their wrists, back, forearm, leg, palm or as a “sleeve.”

During the procedure, the henna will be mixed in a bowl, and after it has been mixed, the application will be placed according to the chosen design.  After the design has been formed on the body, it will be sealed and wrapped.   Small tattoos can take as little as 10 minutes, while more extravagant henna tattoos could take up to an hour.  The time that it takes to apply the tattoo will all depend on the design being applied and the experience of the artist.  Henna Arts, for instance, says a small palm-sized tattoo can take them up to eight minutes, while a design on a bride’s hand can take up to an hour.

After this tattoo has been applied, the dye will dry out, which can take upwards of five hours.  Once the henna starts to dry up, the power will gradually fall off the skin.  While the dye may have a tint of orange in the beginning, it will start to darken after three days or so.

How long does henna last? A high-quality henna tattoo will last seven to 21 days if taken care of properly.

What are the extra costs?

Aftercare will be necessary to make the tattoo last.  Vegetable or olive oil can work great on tattoos.  Simply swipe a cotton swab on the area once a day and follow this by rinsing it with water.

Some artists may charge extra if you want them to create a design that they do not have.  BodyFashionista.com recommends keeping the henna paste on for at least five hours for the best results.

If an artist has to travel to your location, a travel surcharge will more than likely apply.  This fee will all depend on how far they have to travel, but most of the time, it shouldn’t be more than $75.

Tips to know

If someone tells you the tattoo will be black, then it’s best to turn around and run away since the artist will be using some sort of non-natural chemical that’s harmful to your skin such as hair dye.  A natural henna will always produce a dark orange or maroon stain, and the darkness will all depend on your skin type and where the tattoo is going to be applied.

How can I save money?

If going to a local artist, see if they have any promotions available on their website.

How Much Does Hernia Surgery for Dogs Cost?

Hernia surgery for a dog is a procedure performed to remove a hernia in a dog, a condition that occurs when there are holes in the body’s muscle wall.  This condition usually happens naturally or it can be caused by a torn muscle, which allows the intestine and other internal organs to pass through.  If it is diagnosed early, a hernia can be fixed by performing surgery.    The most common symptoms may include noticeable pain, vomiting, depression or a lack of appetite.

There are different types of dogs that can have hernias, but there are certain breeds that are more prone to this condition.  For example, the Poodle, Dachshund, Basset Hound, Chihuahua and Maltese are a few breeds known to get hernias from time to time.

The price for this type of surgery depends on the vet that will perform the surgery, the complexity of the situation, the inclusions in the bill and geographical location.

At the Vet” (CC BY-SA 2.0) by ccox888

How much does hernia surgery for a dog cost?

On average, this type of surgery can cost anywhere from $400 to $2,000.  The size of the dog, the age, as well as the severity of the condition, can greatly affect the price.

The surgery can be as little as $250 to $400 if the procedure is done with a spay or neutering during the puppy stages.  Performing both surgeries at the same time can lower the costs since anesthetic costs are reduced.  Most simple hernias, on average, should be less than $300.

If it were an emergency situation and was left untreated for quite some time, then the costs can be in the $500 to $2,000.  In fact, it can be more if certain body structures were to be strangled because of a hernia.

DogChannel.com shows information regarding hernia surgery for dogs as well as different pricing for the procedure.  They list that the price for the hernia surgery can fall between $750 to $1,600.

Embrace Pet Insurance says the average cost could be about $150 to $400 if it were a minor repair, but if it were a complex situation, plan on spending more than $500.

Hernia surgery for a dog overview

Before the surgery is considered, the vet will first diagnose the condition to confirm a hernia is present.  Most umbilical and inguinal hernias can be identified by seeing a tear in the body surface, either near the belly button or on either side of the groin.  While most hernias will be benign, there are times when the internal organs may herniate within these tears.

According to Vetary.com, there are two types of hernias:  reducible and irreducible.  A reducible hernia will be smaller in size and is when a protrusion may be pushed back into the abdomen by the vet.  This protrusion is simply the fat or abdominal lining.  An irreducible will be larger in size and one or more internal organs will be protruding from the site.  In most of these cases, the vet will have to perform a surgical procedure since these organs may become strangulated, cutting off the blood flow, which in turn, can kill the tissue.

During the procedure, the hole around a hernia will be closed by tightening it up using a suture material after substituting any tissue that may have slipped through.  One of the most common hernia surgeries is an umbilical cord hernia, which does not have many complications after the surgery has been performed.  Since this surgery is rather routine and many dogs are born with it, most of these procedures will rarely lead to any sort of complications.

If, for some reason, the vet deems the opening is smaller than average, then he or she may not recommend surgery.  Instead, you will have to closely watch your dog’s condition for up to six months to see if the hernia heals. If not, then they may ask for you to come back for a follow-up appointment.

What are the extra costs?

The medicine that needs to be taken by the dog after the surgery is completed will cost extra.  Most antibiotics and painkillers should cost less than $30.

Additional visits to the vet before and after the surgery may be necessary.  The vet is going to want to make sure that the dog is healing according to plan, and depending on the veterinarian office, they may or may not include these fees in the total cost.

Complex hernias such as a body wall hernia, which is caused by getting hit by a car, for example, can be more complex.  Because of this, the challenge to repair it can raise the price.

Pre and post blood work may not be included in the initial bill.

If more overnight stays are needed at the office, some offices may charge an additional fee.

Tips to know

Dr. Patty Khuly from Embrace Pet Insurance, the website we mentioned above, said the best way to prevent a hernia is simply by getting your dog spayed or neutered.  Even if they are spayed or neutered, some breeds, such as the cocker spaniel, may experience inguinal hernias due to genetic changes.

How can I save money?

Consult with a vet because you may find that there are other alternatives that can be done that do not require surgery.

Check with many local vet clinics in the area.  Most are going to be able to give a quote right over the phone or the price can be on their website.

Highly consider going with a local Humane Society as they perform surgeries at a fraction of the cost.  24-hour clinics generally will charge the most.

Financial aid can be available through many clinics if the upfront fee cannot be paid right away.

Storage needs to be considered if you don’t have the room at home.  A smaller storage unit can cost about $50 per month.

Factor in accessories such as life jackets, storage bags, towing accessories and panel kits.  The official Sea-Doo.com website has a list of accessories you may want to consider.

Tips to know

A four-stroke jet ski is cheaper for gas, but according to owners, the repairs will be more if it were to break down.

How can I save money?

Highly consider purchasing a used jet ski.  This is a great way to save up to 60% off on your purchase.   You may want to bring a mechanic with you to find out if the Jet Ski is still in good condition.

You can opt to rent Jet Skis in case you will not use them often enough to warrant a purchase.  There are companies that lease Jet Skis and they can cost considerably less than buying one.  See: “How much does it cost to rent a jet ski?

How Much Does a Pekingese Dog Cost?

The Pekingese dog, also known as a “Pekinese” or “Peke,” is commonly referred to as a lion dog because of its long hair that resembles a lion’s mane.  Bred as a smaller toy dog, this breed is commonly found in China.

The cost of a Pekingese dog is going to depend on the breeder, the geographical location, the age of the dog, the quality and inclusions.

How much does a Pekingese puppy cost?

On average, a puppy can cost anywhere from $500 to $750, but dogs that have an AKC champion bloodline will be in the $1,000 to $2,500 price range.

For example, on the official AKC Marketplace, one breeder had one up for adoption for $2,000 to $2,500.

According to the website NextDayPets.com, a website that allows breeders to post listings for their dogs, have prices that range anywhere from $300 to as much as $1,100.  The common factors for their pricing greatly depended on the quality of the dog, the geographical location of the breeder as well as the reputation of the breeder selling.

What is going to be included in the adoption fee?

Reputable breeders should include a health checkup, health guarantee, up-to-date vaccinations and a travel crate if being shipped.  Some breeders or rescue groups may also include a spay/neutering and microchip.

What are the extra costs?

If the dog has to be shipped outside of the United States, a shipping fee will apply.  Depending on the airline and how far the dog has to travel, the costs can be between $350 and $500.

As with any dog, reoccurring costs such as obedience classes, dog food, shelters, toys and vet visits need to be counted for.  The average dog owner should be prepared to spend about $700 to $1,000 per years.

These dogs can be rather stubborn and hard to train.  While these dogs can eventually learn commands, they won’t learn them as fast as other breeds.  Because of this, it’s highly recommended to take the dog to obedience training classes at a young age.

Due to the longer coat, their hair is known to tangle or develop knots.  Because of this, it’s recommended they are brought to a groomer for a regular shampooing and brushing.  Their eyes and face should be cleaned daily with a softer cloth to prevent dirt buildup.  Also, if the folds aren’t kept clean, they can develop dermatitis, irritations or an infection.

Tips to know:

This breed has a double coat that is long, soft to the touch and can drag along the ground with a sturdy, well-built structure.  Common colors include black, white, and tan, but they can come in a variety of colors and markings, including parti-color.

The average size ranges anywhere from six to nine inches and can weigh up to 15 pounds.

As for its temperament, this breed is known to be very loving, sensitive and affectionate most of the time; however, there will come times when they can be stubborn. Usually loyal to one person, this breed can actually make for a good guard dog since they don’t respond well to strangers or strange noises.

Even though the dog can get most of its exercise indoors, it’s still recommended you take them on short walks daily.  These dogs, due to their size, do make a great dog for smaller living spaces such as apartments.

The Pekingese is known to develop problems such as dislocated kneecaps, breathing problems and eye issues.

If you don’t frequently brush or comb its coat, it can become a matted mess, leading to a lot of heavy shedding.

Are Pekingese hypoallergenic?  Keep in mind no dog is 100 percent hypoallergenic, but there are some that can do well with allergy sufferers.  The Pekingese is no different since they are considered to be a heavy shedder, and for that very reason, they aren’t recommended for those who suffer from allergies.

The average lifespan is 11 to 15 years.

How can I save money?

Since these dogs are fairly common, check with a local shelter or Pekingese rescue to see if they have any up for adoption.  While dogs in a shelter are going to be cheaper and/or older, you can feel better knowing that you have given the dog a good home.

Pea gravel is a type of gravel that consists of tiny round stones.  Just like the name states, these stones will resemble that of a small pea.  This type of gravel is used on landscaping projects such as a new walkway or can even be used as a driveway; it can also be found in fish aquariums.

The cost of pea gravel is going to depend on the amount of gravel purchased, where you live and the company selling it.

How much does pea gravel cost?

Pea gravel can come in many different colors, and common sizes can include 3/8″, 3/4″, 3/8″, and 3/4″.  Most companies will only ship pea gravel by the ton, and this gravel will be dropped off at the end of your driveway upon purchase.

Plain pea gravel will cost about $35 to $42 per ton, while a decorative colored pea gravel can cost anywhere from $50 to $85 per ton.  Since a ton is equal to 2,000 pounds, 2,800 pounds can cover one cubic yard or 27 cubic feet.  With that being said, one ton can cover up to 40 square feet of area with a one-inch depth.

If you don’t want to buy in bulk, a bag of pea gravel that covers up to 0.5 cubic feet can cost anywhere from $2 to $7 per bag.  For example, a bag of Southdown Old Castle pea gravel retails for $4 to $6.

According to Home Advisor, the average homeowner needs about 200 square feet of pea gravel, which equals about $350 to $400 if you were to purchase the 0.5 cubic foot bags.  However, the website notes that if you were to use a landscaping company and pay by the ton, then the costs would be about $30 to $45 or up to $50 for a colored variety.

Type of Pea GravelPrice per Ton
Brown$50 to $65
Chattahoochee$70 to $90
Crimson$70 to $90
Egg Rock (White or Brown)$60 to $90
Mini Slate$60 to $75
Trail Mix$60 to $75
White$50 to $70

NOTE:  1 ton of rock can usually  cover around 70 to 110 square feet if it’s 2 inches deep.  It will greatly depend on the type of rock.

Factors that affect the cost

The supplier

When you buy pea gravel, it can be done via two options:  either at a landscaping supply company or from a home improvement store such as Lowe’s or Home Depot.  Smaller bags, as mentioned above, can cost about $3 to $7 per 0.5 cubic feet, while landscaping supply companies will charge by the ton.

The type

All pea gravel isn’t created equally.  Some gravel will have no defined shapes, while other gravel will be softer and will have a color to it.

The amount

The more gravel you need, the more you will pay, but if you purchase more than five to 10 tons at a time, the cost per ton may go down.  Remember to add the depth to your measurements as well when measuring the area.

Colors

Just like the type, the color can affect the cost.  A standard gray will cost the least amount, while a different color can cost more.

DIY or professional?

Lastly, the pea gravel will need to be installed, and if you choose a professional, plan on adding more to the pea gravel costs.

What is going to be included?

Pea gravel purchased from a local landscaping company can include shipping, but you will have to meet the minimum before it’s included.  A local truck will drop the load off at the end of the driveway usually on top of a tarp.  It will be the homeowner’s responsibility to move the gravel to the appropriate spots unless you’re hiring a professional landscaper to distribute it.

The colors of pea gravel can vary in many different colors, but the most common colors that you will find can include brown and white.  There are other tones that can tend to be lighter in tone such as a blue, gray, red or beige.  Even though it’s primarily used for decorations, it’s also used for driveways, pathways, a patio and playgrounds.

What are the extra costs?

Depending on the quantity purchased, delivery charges may be extra.  Shipping can start for as little as $25, but if a certain amount is purchased, some companies are more than happy to waive the shipping fee.  This minimum will be anywhere between five and 15 tons.  The distance can influence the price as well if the delivery has to be outside of their range.  If the pea gravel has to be shipped relatively fast, many local companies can charge an expedited shipping fee.

Having professional help unloading the pea gravel in the appropriate spots can incur additional labor charges.  For example, if you want all the pea gravel spread to create a driveway or walkway, the charges can start at $10 per square foot.  However, additional fees can apply, depending on the scope of the project and if any preparation is required.

A pea gravel stabilizer will be required to create a porous, non-slip surface.

Tips to know:

For walkways, it’s best to use a smaller pea gravel to walk on, and for driveways, try to use a slightly larger pea gravel that won’t stick inside of the tire’s tread.

When buying pea gravel, it’s best to install the pea gravel at least two inches deep for the best results.

When getting a quote, make sure that you offer the same information to each company.  Let them know the size of pea gravel you want, the dimensions needed and how thick you want to spread it.

The main benefit of pea gravel is that it’s an economical way to spruce up an area and can work as a very simple ground cover.  It’s also ideal for those who want to drain standing water and dodge soil erosion.  Disadvantages, however, may include sharp edges, weeds growing through and/or it can be difficult to remove in the future since it’s hard to separate from the underlying soil.

How can I save money?

Consult with a few landscaping supply companies in the area.  Prices can greatly vary from one another.  If professional help is required to help install the pea gravel, consider using services such as HomeAdvisor.com.  It’s best to purchase from a local supply company so that delivery charges will be lower.

Consider checking local classified ads such as Craigslist to see if any people have pea gravel for free.  What people are finding is that builders commonly place free ads to have people come to the job site and will have them haul it away.

If you can, consider picking up the pea gravel with a truck or trailer.  If you have access to one, this is a great way to save a few extra dollars.  By avoiding the delivery charges, it can help you save at least $25 to $45.

If you need less than 200 square feet, then it may be advisable to purchase bags at a local retailer such as Home Depot or Lowe’s.

Some suppliers may knock the price down if you purchase more than 10 tons at a time.  With most bulk purchases, the more you purchase at once, the more you’re going to be able to save.  It never hurts to ask about discounts.

Most farms will require that these birds are picked up locally.  Due to the size and health conditions, many farms will not ship them out of state, but if shipping can be done by breeders, the price can start at $100.

Since these birds can fly, a fenced in coop will be required.  Keep in mind that the peacock has a wingspan of six feet, so it will be essential that there is adequate space.  WikiHow.com, for instance, recommends building a structure at least eight feet tall with chicken wire enclosing it.

While maintenance is rather easy for these birds, be sure to factor in the food allowance month.  In captivity, these birds will eat food such as cracked corn, fruit, nuts, worms, lizards, ants, crickets and wheat.  Plan on budgeting about $10 to $15 per month.

Tips to know:

Make sure that you don’t overcrowd the chicks as overcrowding can cause a lot of harm.

Be sure the water stays clean at all times.  If possible, clean out the water tank at least once a week.

Smaller peachicks will commonly eat foods high in proteins as this will help the smaller chicks to grow at a healthy rate.

Some people often wonder if a peacock can fly.  The answer?  Yes, they can fly; however, not very far or very high.

How can I save money?

Most birds are going to have to be picked up locally.  It is best to check with a local farmer to find birds that fit your needs.  Keep in mind that eggs and chicks can go fairly fast once listed for sale.  If there is a waiting list, it is highly advisable that you sign up so that one can be guaranteed.

Consider checking the local paper or classified ads such as Craigslist to find breeders that sell these birds.
